These are called Beadlock fittings, used in mobile air conditioning. There are TWO lengths of ferrule, short and long. These are the #8 beadlock fittings.

With bent pushrods, valve lash is way off. Pull the valve covers and compare. Besides, you have to pull each pushrods to swap the camshaft. That and the tappets. Just roll them on a flat plate.
Aluminum blocks and overheating? Yeah, just had the same thing on a Scag Turf Tiger with a horizontal shaft Kohler. The head bolts could be removed without any wrenches. Aluminum expands 3X as much as steel with temperature so the block stretches the bolts.
