bottleworks, the resolution is too low on the posted plate photo, and my eyes too bad to see excatly what it looks like - if you wanna email me a bigger one that will help. The winch - no winch thing is a puzzlement. I too own a truck with a "25" prefix - bought direct from DRMO - that is...
The chassis for the vehicle was designed for 11.00-20 single tires, the 9.00-20 duals were an "afterthought" - that since became standard, although the army about 5 years ago returned to the 11.00-20 line of thinking, and singled out a lot of these trucks.
Sorry, no help on the radial issue...
Bottleworks - thanks for posting your info. The actual VIN of you truck is 0325-23978. It registration number is 04L54369. It was possibly built without a winch late in 1969, although it was ordered on 1968 contract DAAE-06-68-C-0007. Thanks for including the info about the light guards -...
Bjorn, Thanks. William - that looks like the registration number, the VIN (mfrs serial number) will be a nine digit number starting with 0 or 1. It should be stamped in the frame near the steering gear - or it may be on the data plate, although the position of it varies through the year...
Several of you have PM'd me - I am on the road at the moment and can only get a TERRIBLE dial up connection. The third and fourth digits of the VIN on Kaiser-Jeep and AM General vehicles typically indicate the type of truck it is - this has been discussed in part in some other threads - for...
RE: non-turbo deuce
Rick and Cabel,
That info will be handy. As far as rust goes - I once saw some USMC five-tons that had been overseas-shipped topside and the hoods were rusted through - and I don't just mean in the usual places!
Salt water is tough on these vehicles....as I imagine those...
If you have a deuce built by one of the above, whose VIN has the third and fourth digits of 26, 29, 31, 37, 38, 42 or 43 - please contact me and let me know what kind of truck you own. As much additional information as you can give is also appreciated.
The VIN is stamped on the driver's side...
Hello fellows,
I am hoping that there is someone on this list who owns, or has access to, a M35A2-type truck not built for the U.S. government. The information I need is the first two digits of the frame-stamped VIN number (also on the data plate).
Any and all help appreciated.
Sincerely...
It has been too long since I did this - but from memory the GMC MC has a check valve that the Reo lacks - when the two are swapped you get one brake application - then the system is in hydrolock - with potentially disasterous results. I may have this backwards, but as you can gather the two can...
original vs non-original
I don't really want to hi-jack this man's thread...
First of all, the key to my statement is one should buy what YOU want. If you want a deuce painted purple with pink polka dots, powered by a Detroit Diesel, and running on earth mover tires - then buy it.
But know...
All original doesn't vary with model - it means equipped as it left the factory - and yes I have some in the 30 - and even 50+ year range that are still that way....but they have to be sought out, many, many have been repowered by the government, or otherwise modified by civilians.
Best,
David
There is a lot of variation in price based in large part on intended use. If you intended to actually use the truck, the sprag-type transfer case can be considered a liability, because it requires periodic adjustment. However, preservationists (such as myself) will pay far more for an all...
RE: Research project
A progress report.....so far I have input VIN and registration numbers for about 450 deuces into this data base. And this is leading to some very useful information. This number should go up a good bit when I get home, where I have some old DRMS sales catalogs. But, given...
I know that a lot of you guys have added turbos to former naturally aspirated Multifuel engines (LD-465).
If you have a deuce that came without a turbo - I'd like the following info.
Serial number, make and date of mfr of the naturally aspirated engine
Serial (ViN), model (M35A2, M292A2...
Work on a deuce data base continues...
I am looking for owners of LDS-427 engines...this is the original turbo Multifuel for the deuce. Not the LDS-465 from the five ton, nor the LDT-465 from the deuce.
If you have one or more of these engines - I'd like all the data of its builder's plate...
lots of folks seem to be afraid of the bridge trucks because of their size, and they seem to go cheaper than regular 5 tons....so you may just find one in your price range!
Best,
David
