I will mention this to Jason as I will be talking with him tonight. He has gone to NYC. I think he wants his one wrecker to have a soft top, but I'll let him know.
Justin, I was referring to auction prices. Sure, you are definitely saving over retail, but, as you know as well as anyone, there are risks associated with buying from an auction and that is why you are saving money. I can't remember the last one I saw stateside to be truthful. I know there...
I would love to hear what the final tally for truck and shipping is. I contend the truck could have been purchased stateside for the same amount, but with less hassle. If you want help getting it out of there, a friend I know can assist...but he charges a fee...even to me.
Travis, that is what I was referring to. I had read somewhere that the tractors were either equipped with a midships recovery winch or the material handling crane, but not both. I further heard that the Patriot tractors were equipped with the midships winch. I heard that the other M983s with...
JIMBO, I am not sure I want to sell the 5th wheel since I'd like to keep it in case I switch back for some reason, or end up selling the truck (the future buyer may want to put it back to original). However, I do have a 5th wheel that I believe came off of a Freightliner (or so the description...
Yup...8V92TA. I know some don't like them, but it is the motor that came out so I tried to find the right one to go back in. It set me back some coin, but I think it was worth it. It was a zero mile motor (govt rebuild) with dyno specs.
Travis, it is not going to be a frame off restoration because the truck does not need it. A friend in FL is installing the motor and cleaning it up a bit for me. I would have liked to do the latter myself, but I don't have the equipment to install a motor. Rather than spend thousands moving...
You can find them if you want to pay the price. Or, you could pay someone to build one for you. I was doing that with an M978 fueler until I found my now-gone M977. I recently acquired an M983 Patriot tractor that only needed a motor and some TLC. I hope to have that truck ready by summer...
You just teased alot of guys who would love to own one! Thanks for the update! I love to hear about current equipment.
With regard to your comments on the M151s, the problem with the M151 was not their propensity to roll over on certain turns. The problem was that someone sued the govt. and...
I agree with Lane and ABARKUS...the 3/4 ton trailer will work just fine. I have actually towed an M105 with a Blazer on level highways, but the truck does not really like this weight and the trailer really slants forward. The M416 is really the only trailer that the military deemed safe for...
I have had probably 20 trucks painted with fresh CARC (my personal favorite for authenticity) over the years and a few with Gillespie. The Gillespie weathers and lasts better in my opinion. With the CARC, the problem is not the green (or tan) or brown; the problem is the black. The green and...
Be careful as CARC is TOXIC...highly TOXIC! All paint is toxic to some degree, but CARC is worse. It attacks the central nervous system. Use a fresh air breathing apparatus. Yes, other paints stick to CARC. I know for a fact that Gillespie sticks to it and so does more CARC. Also, primer sticks...
