They are reliable IF you maintain them. Run it at least once a month to operating temperature and at least half rated load. They have no problem pulling rated load for long periods and are far more tolerant of over loads.
The fuel tanks like to rust if not kept full, swapping out fuel every...
No, the rotating diodes are isolated from the field flashing circuit. The problem is either CVT or regulator. Flashing during starting induces current in the rotor through the rotating diodes, then the CVT should take over with the regulator providing fine control of output voltage.
Lima MAC...
that could work, the issue would be if the copper sealing rings are in place on the bolts. The fuel systems on these units are more often than not, disgusting. So running without filters is a very bad idea, unless you are willing to repair or replace injection pumps.
It has low compression, small valves and a fairly weak crankshaft. Sure, putting a slightly larger carb on it, shaving heads, shortening pushrods to match and possibly shifting timing might get 20 Hp, but for how long? At best, it will put out 12 Hp reliably, 16 with some internal mods.

Oh, that is a problem for sure. Thought it was the bleeders on the top. Sorry for the confusing text..
Surely there is someone who has done a conversion to spin on that has these parts.
Of al the improvised diesel fuel lubes, two stroke oil is the least harmful with regards to ash deposits. Transmission fluid is the most dubious in this respect. Modern gasoline engine oil has far reduced ash worries.
Your link didn't work too well, I did a search. That is a 10 watt 56 ohm, the required minimum heat capacity is 6.5 watts, it will work. If it were a 2 watt, it would overheat but a 10 watt won't. Basically, higher power dissipating resistors are physically larger.
The rust can be fixed. Single plane bend, just some 22 gauge steel, butt welded to good stuff right at door frame and then slowly work it to the center. Weld it up, shrink it down and a wee spot of body filler makes the rust disappear.
Yes, it a fixer upper. But if it is too much, we could...
I use Viton o rings for fuel and oil filter housings, 236 on fuel, 244 for oil. 75 durometer. Sold in 5 packs for the larger, 10 packs for the smaller.
The originals are square profile, o rings work fine as the joint is confined, you need minimal force to seat them into the grooves once wet...
I just use the used motor oil from my wife's car. It is very clean, low viscosity and low ash. But it won't help with gel. That is mostly a non issue with modern diesel, especially in warmer climates. You know the stock fuel filter base has a heater, right?
The tires were molded in 2012, they might have 7000 miles on them. Since I don't go off road but a few times a year AND since 4wd gets me unstuck ( the 1031 chassis has a limited slip front), I will wait a few years for new rubber. These Commercial TAs are fine highway tires. Outstanding wet...
The difference is tire pressure. Not tread pattern, those are essentially identical (Commercial TAs and Yokahama YK580s). Pressure in the tire dictates contact patch area, force equals product of pressure and area. And my 1031 has far more weight than the Jetta.
guess I could have let some...
Yes, in 4H, it is like on a cogway. Only without the noise. The issue is high tire pressure and resultant small contact patch. Because my car, parked just feet from the SECM, easily pulled itself free of the muddy moorings this morning with no wheel slip. And the fronts are just about down...
Thanks, 4WD works. Feels weird to have the front hubs locked when driving on the road with the limited slip front. No, it was in 2WD on the hard surfaces.
I filled the ruts and spread coarse sand, looks like another mission today.
I park my SECM in the south lot here at casa J as it is shaded and I am a shade tree mechanic. The remains of pacific hurricane Vance coupled with a cold front to give is 7" of much needed rain. Last night, son #2 hit a puddle of water on his way home from university and the engine quit. So I...
The waste motor oil tests were done with waste diesel motor oil. Modern gasoline engine oils have much less ash due to decreases in ZDDP and other ash producing chemicals as they poison catalytic converters. And gasoline engine oils are lower viscosity and have less soot.
vegetable oils and...
Is the needle all the way left? They can hang up there, a hit with the hand can dislodge it. The problem is the needle can crash on the dial face where the face curves out, hanging it up. Movement force isn't enough to dislodge. But some pimp slapping is.
