Something I need in the 1031, I have a great MEP 026C that could live on the home made receiver hitch with cargo shelf. As an auxiliary power unit, for 107 amps of 28 volt DC power to jump start, charge and power. Plus make my 28 volt DC air conditioning system run when not moving ;)
Just the capacitor blown. But the tantalum foil confetti was blown all over the regulator and printed circuit boards, that could have shorted something out. Brushed off all the mess and blew it out with compressed air.
Still need the the left exhaust manifold replaced, it is far gone. A...
Load test done. How? Hooked it to the M1031 and loaded it with my 24 volt air conditioner, a motor rated at 70 amps. It only drew 63 amps but that was through 20 feet of #4 wire so the alternators were picking up the slack.
anyone need a jump start? 107 amps at 28 volts;-)
Guess I am the expert now ;). IT IS ALIVE! Yes, voltage is smoothly adjustable between 21 and 38 using the control panel adjustment knob. Next step is to make a gasoline tank and filter setup. Also will add a propane carb and electric start.
My goal is to make an inverter based 120 volt...
Took the VR apart, finding one of the 110 microfarad tantalum capacitors blown open. Frags of tantalum and paper were everywhere. This is a polarized axial lead cap with color coded polarity. Still trying to figure out how to remove the power output transistor.
well, this is the older...
Finally got one of those round toits and dug into my 026C (3kW 28 volt DC version of the 016C). I had fixed the carb and fuel system, starts and runs fine but even with the voltage adjustment in the lowest position, output is 35 volts. The voltage adjustment works, peaking out at 44 volts...
That is similar to what I use for my greenhouse misting system, used to humidify incoming air without wasting water. For the pressure tank, I used a water heater expansion tank, a bladder style similar to a well pressure tank but much smaller. $50 from home improvement stores. Adjustable air...
The reason for ZDDP removal was due to the lifespan of the catalytic converter and exhaust gas oxygen sensors. ZDDP is an anti wear additive compound composed of zinc, sulfur and phosphorous. All of these elements poison catalysts and oxygen sensors.
ZDDP levels were reduced in S class oils (for spark ignited engines) and only in certain C class (compression ignition) oils, primarily the 5W40 API CJ4+. But old school 15W40 CJ is virtually unchanged in ZDDP level.
And yes, some of the C classes are dual rated for certain S classes so you...
Small diesels? Bosch built the injection pump used in the M35A2 multifuel, they had to form an independent subsidiary company (Ambac) to win the defense contract. Sure, the Roosa pump was around but it was indirect injection only.
Small diesel technology had been stunted because the costs...
Even the best steel has an endurance limit, the question would be what is the average stress as designed compared to the actual stress when the bearings have worn.
Funny how VAG used gasser blocks too for Diesel engines. Even direct injected turbocharged common rail systems. Shared the same bore spacing and transmissions, with suitable ratios.
It wasn't the block's fault the Olds 5.7 failed, it was the rest of the system. Starting at head bolts and...
Inline sixes have perfect balance on the crank since they have a firing/ignition/injection event every 120 degrees of crank throw, a V8 has firing every 90 degrees. Seems odd that fewer cylinders makes for a smoother engine but the V8 is actually two inline fours so the second order vibrations...
Most excellent hypothesis. Now, what is the camshaft material? Nodular cast iron? Probably. Look at the Goodman endurance limit for this material. Realize cams in four stroke engines spin at half crank speed. 12 valves then load it 12 times per revolution.
PS is the US Army's preventative service magazine, something for the soldiers to read while on CQ duty or waiting for the wash rack to open up;). It is free and online for back issues, there is a link somewhere.
On glow plugs, not only is cold resistance important, also time to heat and...
There will be some smoke at that load, should clear up at 9000 watts of load.
or you could run it in three phase with one element on each phase, at 208 volts this would be close to 12 kW load. You can slightly adjust the voltage to fine tune the load. I've run my 002a on one 4500 watt element...
There are check valves in the pumps that can be clogged or held open with debris. Check the first pump inlet check valve, if it is leaking, it won't pump.
Thanks for the compliments! I've been welding since the early 1980s. I learned on oxyacetylene, graduated to GTAW in the 90s and bought my own machine 3 years ago.
All metal was cut with 14" abrasive chop saw, double weld bevels done on bench grinder. Autogeneous root pass (no filler...
