Rusty, it is about half 40W and half 30W non detergent oil. Waterloo called for 40W but there was only 2 qts available. I used to run 80/90 gear oil in it. 30W sure is thin.
Thanks guys! Took her out for a test drive....clutch slippped a little in 5th in the beginning (that LDS has a lot of power!) when accelerating hard, but after a while it seemed to hold just fine.
Maybe I give her another brake clean spray.
No new leaks. I am happy.
Opened inspection cover and washed the bell housing out with 5 cans of brake cleaner. 2x4 to keep clutch depressed, engine idling to get the clutch and flywheel as best as I could. Oily mess cleaned up to clear runoff. I also cleaned my hands through the gloves and soaked half of my face, so I...
Murphy and the Rear Main Seal - Murphy messed up :-)
Had replaced the rear main and modified the carrier while I had everything apart. Did "fingernail check" on crank for groove and new seal dis not sit in same spot as old one anyway. Ran fine for over 50 hours now.
Today....highway run for an...
No. Front seal is NSN 5330000813416, rear is NSN 5330009180595. Can be had from all major MV parts suppliers.
If my list is correct, the National part # 3945 is the civy equivalent (hopefully someone can verify).
M621 are cool...and have lockers...and singles from the factory... :-)
By the way, you HAVE to post pictures of yours. Otherwise you will get into trouble here! :-)
Re heads, especially if you have to have the work done at a shop:
If done right and/or if the heads need significant planing, the valves need to come out to have the seats re-ground to make up for the material removed from the head surface. That, and if you also have cracks in your head...
Thumbs up on that. I re-used the original seals but used 50 year clear outside sealant when I replaced the windshields and refurbished the frames...wow...nine years ago. I think this is the only way to reliably prevent water from seeping into the hollow window frames. No rust or bubbles since.
I am with scar...don't try and rebuild the air pack on the fly. The "parked when pedal went to the floor" and water in the air tanks story tells me that whoever had the truck did not know much about it and probably did not do any maintenance, either. I'd be double careful checking it over.
If...
You really, really, really want to think about the OD upgrade right now...you get a gasket set, a new main shaft, needle bearings, syncro hub for 2/3 syncro, 5th gear and sleeve for needle bearings on main shaft, and 5th counter shaft gear. Not sure you need a new 2nd...
The front bumper seems proof that the winch on that truck works.....I bet the chain was wrapped around the bumper and the winch was (accidentally) engaged..... the bumper centre is pulled up and inwards.
My Deuce is definitely female and she always finds something irritating to do. Latest kink is that both headlights come on with low beam when the truck is first started. After a few seconds the left headlight goes dark. It works fine when high beam is selected but immediately goes dark on low...
