The resistors are only used for dropping the voltage from 28v to 12v to the glow plug relay. Sounds like they had a glow plug controller problem and bypassed it with a manual switch. The batteries could have been ruined by poorly charging alternators. The electrical system looks complicated...
That is a clock designed for radio shelters, it's about 4" in diameter. If anyone has one for sale I am looking for one for my AN/GRC-142 RATT shelter.
The mechanical pump on the engine block was updated at some point and contains a check valve that prevents drainback, I installed them on mine. If you buy a new pump at a GM dealer it will be the new type, they were less than $30.
No problem, drove mine home, sight unseen from GL, 715 miles from PA to ME, just do a good PM and bring plenty of $$$ for fuel. Took me about 18 hours with a couple of food and fuel stops, Saturn and Coleman stop as well. Good luck!
I am in Machias on the coast, at weare every year but a little too far for the deuce, will have my MB there this year. A gathering in Maine centrally located would be great.
Above freezing mine starts right up, below freezing it takes more cranking but if I hit the ether switch it starts instantly, if its zero or below I hit the ether one or two more times while it's running to smooth it out. Best investment I made.
All depends on what was installed in the shelter. The AN/GRC-142 had two heaters, 1500w ac electric and a 24v multifuel. The idea being you could have heat if you were using the ac power source or dc source. I too am looking for the fuel heater.
The size I bought was the same size as a standard propane torch bottle. These are the standard GI issue ones used in the quick start kit for the deuce. They were in GI packaging NOS.
I just posted a wanted ad in the classifieds for one of those heaters. The one I am looking for is a UH48-E, they were used in commo shelters and mine is missing the heater. If anyone knows where there are any I would appreciate the help.
Vintage video has a cd called nothing but WWII jeeps and in a segment on that cd it shows them using one of those units mounted in the back of a WWII jeep heating the manifold with the heater then juming it with the slave.
New ether bottles for the deuce $2ea bought a case of 12
New GMA deuce camo bed cover $300
I noticed other deals but if you were just a few seconds too late they were gone, lots of venders and lots of buyers.
Did you look to see if the lights were flashing or just go by the turn signal indicator light? The bulb in the indicator may be bad, also check the flasher ground both on the box and the control.
