Most of it was already cleaned off the components I had. For the tiny bit I had, I just used a general degreaser and carefully used a razor blade scraper, being sure not to gouge the mating surfaces.
Now as to the sealant used between the mating surface, I used Hylomar because it's strangely...
I've personally heard the same stories you've heard from people that I know. These things aren't hopeless by any stretch, you just have to compare it to what's similar out there. You've got a 6.2L (or 6.5L) GM Detroit Diesel-based engine, a 3L80/THM400 or 4L80E transmission, an NP218 or NP242...
Thanks, TNriverjet. I've been idly waiting on money to order the next batch of parts. I'm pretty close to ready for that next stage, so I'm putting together my next detailed part list of everything I know I need. More fasteners (especially on equipment attached to the transmission), all the...
I'm in the parts manual right now and I've noticed this notation in two separate wiring diagrams... It looks like the wiring diagram shows the TCM having a constant 12V feed through the circuit breaker, before the relay. The transmission itself isn't powered on until the relay is closed by...
I'm getting closer to that PRC-104 I want...I have the RT-1209 and an RT-1444, so I'm now looking for the AM-6874 antenna coupler/amplifier and any other items that are part of the PRC-104 and GRC-213 system. I don't see any of them listed anywhere online, so I'm putting out my feelers to try...
Well, dang. I may have done this one wrong on my gauges too, except that mine is working. My fuel gauge was flaky, so I'll check for this when I open it back up to check the connections on the fuel gauge.
I agree with orgnal. Order up a replacement because the current one is definitely on the way out. Heck, maybe a pair so both side will be equally fresh. But, I'd personally still continue to drive it on short trips until the replacement part was in, assuming that's no more than about a week.
Does sound like I missed out, especially if that was all in excellent condition. I just got the test set for about $205 delivered. There's still one more on eBay from the same seller. "MSD ICE" was my search to bring it up, should anyone else want one. This set should be complete with all of...
I'm with Jeffy: the biggest thing you'll need to hold highway speeds will be the 4L80E transmission, which is most easily noticed by what shifter is installed in the truck. Even still, you're not going to be going 75 MPH+ in one...they're just not geared to hold that speed. If you want to buy...
Looks like I'm going to gamble it. The price on these kits is the lowest I've seen in 6 months. Worst case, I just patiently wait for a cheap Miltope MSD v2 laptop to show up somewhere, since this kit will come with the recovery disk for one.
If anyone does have any feedback still, I'd really...
I was looking at grabbing one of these, but wanted to know before I committed the money...has anyone gotten the ICE kit adapter set to work on a non-Miltope computer? The kits seem to have a basic software included with them, plus I have the HMMWV IETM that begs me to plug in an ICE Box...
And suddenly, VIC-3 threads everywhere. Did I just miss a big sale on working VIC-3 systems? ...otherwise, this is an excellent circuit build. If I had a VIC-3, I'd probably be looking to buy one off of you. One way to improve the end-user experience on this would be to attach an...
My exact reaction, while sitting alone in my room: "Good God! That looks great!" Thanks for showing me that polishing actually makes a difference on these.... That will definitely save me from making a whole new rear curtain window.
Alright, my turn... So when I first started in, I had actually read that same thread on the Deuce. I realized that there was a lot more to think about than just the price tag beside the name. The most immediate costs to realize are the auction fees, taxes, and transportation. Luckily, a HMMWV...
There are a lot of threads about this and it may even be mentioned in a sticky...this is the glowplugs cycling after the engine has been started. It's part of the design of several of the PCB/EESS starting control box systems and it's normal for this to occur with those units for 30-120 seconds...
For the record, I've picked up an RT-1444 for less than $50...working on getting the RT-1209 to go with it. ONTOS66 had offered up a GRC-213 set to me before he left on a trip, but I had to delay for budgetary reasons. He's been dead-silent for over a month past his announced return and I'm...
Not sure where I found this...I think it might have been a random post on here sharing it a month or so ago... Either way, knowledge is best shared, so here you go!
This thing's pretty much the Alpha and Omega of 4L80E electrical troubleshooting guides, because it pretty much covers...
Got a quote for a VRC-83 from Columbia Electronics. While I was pleasantly surprised by their communications, abundance of provided information and service background, and the simple availability of one of them...the price made me feel like rebuilding a HMMWV is relatively a pretty cheap hobby...
Yeah, I was just reading through the Supplement 7 4L80E Transmission Troubleshooting Guide. It has lots of pretty color pictures of the equipment in the HMMWV, lots of pretty charts with error codes, and great diagnostic flow charts and instructions on how to read the codes without a scan tool...
