I have an m1009 that had an Arctic kit at one time. It had some pieces left and the previous owner gathered most of the stuff needed to put one back in but I never got around to it. I ended up putting a turbo on so there's no room for the kit in stock location anymore. Still have boxes of parts...
I'd unbolt the rear straps, jack the rear of the truck up as high as you can and then just pull the shaft out and put the u joint in the new axle.
Or or use a caliper and measure the yoke and then your u joint.

Do these help? I used an aftermarket crossover from a 6.5. I cut the drivers end off and cut it in the middle. Don't recall how much I cut out but I only made the 2 cuts. It's pretty close to the inspection cover but doesn't touch anything.
Did you grab the oil return block off plate? You'll also need a feed line.
I used my drivers manifold and an aftermarket crossover. I had to cut it and modify it. I think I read that even with the 6.5 drivers manifold you'll have to modify the crossover because of the trans. The stock 6.5...
They do make adapter spacers to use 8 lug on 6 lug axles. I don't think it's a worthwhile thing to do though because with 3.08 gears it's going to be pathetically slow and strain those 10 bolts.
