Bringing the M1031 into 21st century...backup cam and cupholders

Interesting I was thinking about adding a second set batteries in the secm box, maybe a pair of group 31 deep cycles with an isolation switch to the main batteries. Then add an inverter. Then use a 6k to 12k btu wall a/c Of course you would need to duct everything into the cab along with the...

Bringing the M1031 into 21st century...backup cam and cupholders

Driving it with just the mirrors is no problem. It really comes down to parking lots and such. People just have no idea about large trucks and blind spots. They would drive underneath you to get by and then blame you. It is just great piece of mind when the gear shift goes into the R position...

    New tundra or cucv ?

Better yet, buy a 3 year old off lease Corolla that has 36k miles on it for $10k - $12k and still get the M1008. Then I would 6BT it with an NV4500 and maybe do an A/C swap. That way you have a rock solid 40 mpg DD and still have a workhorse that won't cost you an arm and a leg. Everything said...

Bringing the M1031 into 21st century...backup cam and cupholders

I think the angle of the camera pointing down would either give you a great shot of the bumper or a distant picture. The camera would need to have quite the lense on it to see everything that high. Plus the middle clearance light may interfere at night. Too many variables on this install. I...

    New tundra or cucv ?

I think an M1008 to a new Tundra is apples to oranges. One is nothing more than a payment plan and some scheduled maintenance for quite some time. Quiet ride, A/C, fast, good tow capacity, etc. The other is a slow, noisy, harsh beast that won't owe you anything once you run through it with a...

Bringing the M1031 into 21st century...backup cam and cupholders

I was tired of holding my coffee cup on long excursions. Chugging it so I didn't have to hold onto it was very counterproductive and resulted in shakes worse than a 6.2 diesel. So ten bucks later from Autozone...a solution to all of my beverage holding needs. Spillmaster console twin by hopkins...

    Front axle traction aid

Having just driven my M1031 on pavement with the hubs lock (keepin it all lubes up during the summer), it does have some funky handling with the front track. But I don't remember my old Yota which had a rear spool and full Detroit in front handling any worse. Run it with the Detroit and know...

    M1031 build thread

I will add some more soon. I am getting a new injection pump and will be installing shortly, adding a back up camera with a monitor where the rearview goes, and putting some goodies out back like a stove. Getting it ready for a sunrise climb up Mt. Washington at the end of August. PTO generator...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately? - Part 1

About to tear into the IP for new throttle shaft seals. Just finishing up rebuilding GEN2. Pulled the main bearing out, turned out to be a FAG which was made in Canada. Could have swore FAG was German bearings used on European vehicles (VW, Audi, Porsche, etc.) and that my US truck has...

Rear wheels look "Toed out" ???

Very true! A modern rack will tell you a bunch of stuff about your rig which can be useful information for cheap money. Anytime you have a pull, death wobble, etc, the rack won't lie :)

no start / will start with a sniff of either

Roger that! I keep a close watch on my voltage gauge when I think my GP's are on. I also confirm the loud clunk from the solenoid turning off. Will AC60's prevent swollen tips if the solenoid stays on for whatever reason? I had Wellmans which were all seized up.

Sold a 1031, titling issues with new buyer, need advise.

I understand but the buyer should have done his homework first. If I was to purchase this vehicle, I would have no issue getting it registered due to my local laws. The buyer should have known what he would have needed regarding paperwork. I see this everytime I go to the DMV and someone is...

no start / will start with a sniff of either

After you add the extra time for taking out the swollen ones:grin: Good advice, unknown plugs...not even worth while trying to trouble shoot further until you know they came out of a brand new box. My M1031 had massive issues with starting when I first got it. Even with bad plugs, it would...

Sold a 1031, titling issues with new buyer, need advise.

I registered my M1031 with nothing more than a hand written bill of sale in Maine due to the age of the vehicle. Of course in Maine, you cannot get a vehicle titled older than 1995 so I would only be able to sell it to someone in a state that accepted the official "Maine older than 95' certified...

New Old Warn Winch 8274 Install

Doesn't matter how strong your welds are, you are putting all pulling forces through a 2" receiver hitch. Not to mention it sticks out very far adding a lot of leverage for side pulls. Not a good design, should just do a permanent mount. If you look at good winch mounts, it keeps the winch...

    New Guy Here M1031

I may need one if no one buys my generator setup. I've fumbled around with my governor a few times with a DVOM and know it has power, ground, and an AC voltage coming from the speed sensor spinning up. Trying to commit to selling it (already have a Honda 5000 and 2000 inverter) or dumping money...

    Hitch conversions

Not sure why you specifically need a hitch (maybe for a receiver hitch accessory) but you can buy a combination pintle/ball which is what will find its way onto my M1031 soon.
