With the weather events on the east coast I suspect just about all the ones that had been for sale have sold in the last couple of weeks. If you give it a couple of months some will likely turn up.

You should not use copper tubing with diesel, the diesel will react with the copper and thicken. There is a lot of information about this online, google it.

Like the others have said there is not much worth mentioning when it comes to the differences over the years, plus the majority of the ones your likely to run across have been through the rebuild process enough times that they are now mix and match.
If you still want to know the common...
That may work for one, or even two, but when you get to number 3 or 4 it is a little more difficult, I think my last $400 MEP ended up costing me about $1,500 in land scaping around the house.
Like Speddmon said, classic symptoms of a bad output transistor, you may find it will work right for a few minutes when cool, then the voltage will spike. Removing the voltage regulator board from the housing is the hardest part of changing the transistor, you may want to order a spare in case...

I have been buying my filters (oil, air, fuel, air filters last a LONG TIME) from amazon, they qualify for free shipping and the price is competitive. OH don't forget to check the strainer filters in the bottom...
Welcome there is a lot of good information here, and I think everyone will suggest reading the TM's and the MEP-002a / MEP-003a wiki, it contains lots of good information on filters, etc.

Inspection is still not universal, the rural areas around where I live are still uninspected even though the state passed a law requiring all local governments to hire inspectors over 5 years ago, many have not yet done it.

you may want to look at a whole home manual transfer switch, try searching ebay for 200 amp transfer switch and look at the various manual models starting for under $500 (posting auction links is against the SS rules).

I am not sure, but it might be what was later redesignated the MEP-018, I know the 5KW MEP-017 had another designation prior to the MEP program starting around 1967.

Like they said these were designed for harsh conditions, however it is amazing where water and debris can get when the wind speeds get up over 100 miles per hour, not that your likely to see that in a cat 1 hurricane. It is also possible for strong winds to blow into the cooling duct outlets...
You should be fine in normal rain, I might be a little concerned about hurricane force blowing rain getting inside the control box and connection box, etc.

I certainly would not sell my last generator (or my next to last generator, or perhaps my 3rd to last generator) with a major storm on the way. The simplest thing to try is run under load for an hour or so (in this case I have read reactive load (motors) are better than resistive loads...
Sounds like a field flash issue, may just be low residual magnetism from lack of use. My MEP-002 will fail to build voltage on normal start up about 1 in 5 times, then just requires one simple turn back to the start position to flash. If it does not improve after a couple of hours of running...
Jim, the key to that statement is MOST 120/240V single phase equipment works fine on 120/208V 3 phase, without knowing more about the situation it is easy to give bad advice.

p.s. also in mixed environments such as this you have to be VERY careful on grounding, also there is concern about...
I think you are talking about the hand prime pump for the injection pump, you need to loosen the fitting going into the injector and crank until fuel spurts out (warning put a rag around it as it may be at high pressure). If fuel does not shoot out after a little cranking your injection pump...
