The tires are 1400x 24 motor grader tires,a common sight on 10 tons in logging use i'm told. The damage is cosmetic(other than the radiator)engine is complete as is the driveline,I may have already found a couple parts trucks nearby used by a local logging company.I may try and start it later...
jdobyns, first order of business is to change oil and fire the engine and do all the necessary checks(oil press, compression, noises)and see if it'll move under it's own power. Then on to the brakes.
Well, left at 5 AM Sat morning and got home at 4:30 this morning. It took about 6 1/2 hours out and 8 hrs to get back.We had no problems what so ever other than a few oil leaks(differentials).here are a few pics.
Well, looks like I'll be leaving between 3 and 5 A.M. tomorrow morning to go pick up the 10 ton in VA.Hopefully "Murphy" will leave me alone this trip(unlike the 2005 east coast convoy).I'm taking my camera and instructing my MO/PIC to get plenty of pictures. If all goes well I should be back...
Jeff,
I sent John a total of 9 pictures of my M52 on Sat,is the M172 lowboy in as good a shape as it looked ?I'm planning on pulling it with my M123 when I get it finished.Does it have both ramps and all 4 wheel covers?
Wow!,what a help the injectors were!A noticeable power increase,I can now pull hills in 3rd gear without losing speed. Also noticed a small amount of black smoke on acceleration and a hard pull. Not sure about the starting issues (it's 70 degrees here today)i'll ckeck that next week, thanks to all...
Thanks alot!,That was the info I was needing.brakes are no problem all the air lines on the 10 ton are still intact.Being that I probably won't exceed 45 mph I don't think the tires will be a problem either. The only thing that has me worried is the wheel bearings,it has been sitting 10+...
I'm thinking of towing the M123 home from VA with my 816,I'm very aware of how light the front end of the 816(and previous)wreckers get when lift towing their maximum weight.Any pointers ,advice, past experiences?I'm getting close to time I have to move it and all my shippers aren't coming...
