    Turning radius?

I never measured it but I find it quite nimble for a 6x6. Things to do that would reduce the turning radius are - front hub lockouts - rear axle disconnect - radials and normal-high air pressure in front to allow turning the steering wheel more quickly

    water comes thou windshield frame

Not hard at all. It is easier when you intend to replace cracked glass anyway because you are not as afraid to use a bit of muscle, in case a channel is really stuck. The original plastic strip seal between glass and frame had hardened and disintegrated. I assembled with strips cut from a car...

    water comes thou windshield frame

I removed the glass with the frames, took the frames apart, cleaned them up, rustproofed them, replaced the glass with new green tinted laminated glass and used clear exterior 40 year caulking to seal the gap between the glass and the frame on the exterior. The above poster is correct - I now...

    M35a2c coolant

You may want to check out this thread: http://www.steelsoldiers.com/deuce/59373-why-my-coolant-white.html It has a diagram of the oil cooler, its location and a picture of the gaskets. How much oil in the head area? A seepage of oil does not necessarily mean the head gasket is kaputt. Many...

    M35a2c coolant

Affirmative for oil in the coolant. Possible head gasket. Possible oil cooler. I would investigate the oil cooler first, especially if you do not have suspicious oil leaks or oil seeps from the head gasket area onto the block. Others may chime in with troubleshooting suggestions.

    M35a2c coolant

The operator's manual (hint, hint!) says that the coolant level should be visible in the filler neck when you take the cap off. The multifuel does run cool-ish, but you may want to check your thermostat. If it is broken, it may be locked in the "open" position.

    M35a2c coolant

The reason you were asked to check the oil was because oil in the coolant and coolant in the oil are hallmarks for a leaking head gasket. The water and oil passages in the engine block are well separated by the head gasket where they cross from the cast iron block to the cylinder heads. If the...

Where to get heads worked over??

Local shop is worth checking out for several reasons: - if it is the only/one of a few shops in the area, they likely work on a wide variety of things, which is never bad - I was told that the work of planing a head as such is not particularly difficult by machine shop standards; it is not...

    A Leaking Winch!

Not to hijack the thread - is it even worth it to try and reseal the winch for occasional use? Mine leaks, as do most other winches, and I was thinking of just using cornhead grease in it, or even thick Lucas gear oil. I did read several winch rebuild posts and recurring leaking after rebuild is...

Starting my deuce after 5 year storage

When operating as designed, the injection pump supplies the fuel and the engine has a provision to be shut down via some type of fuel shutoff. Over time or because of a defect, oil seals can begin to leak and allow engine oil into the intake area of the engine. A common culprit are the axle...

Starting my deuce after 5 year storage

And one of the most important things is to make sure that you have a camera handy so you can take a video clip of that first startup after five years. That way, we can all be there when she coughs to life again!

What did you do to your deuce this week?

Welcome! 1) the engine will do fine without the fan running for loading/unloading, provided there is coolant in it. 2) to post, you have to be logged in and find the "New Thread" button to the left underneath all the discussion topics on the forum page The Deuce - Steel Soldiers::Military...

Get rid of that biodiesel, for new MV buys

Note the B100 (pure biodiesel) in the article above. I recommend blending biodiesel with straight diesel and this will allow you to avoid these issues, provided your fuel system is serviceable in the first place. B100 and high percentage blends will loosen crud in the fuel system and after the...

Does your deuce smoke at all at idle?

My D-turbo with army-stock fuel delivery, running on straight Diesel will not visibly smoke at idle. It will, however, smoke a lot as soon as you hit the accelerator. I had to have mine e-tested as well and, predictably, it did not pass. They measure smoke density from when the truck is idling...

M109A3 trip Des Moines to VA...change that oil

Good insights. I presume it is a 109A4, seeing it has a CAT diesel? I agree that, before a 1000 mile recovery, one should plan on at least a couple of days on-site to be able to PM and repair, if needed, an unknown truck. It is not only to be safe for the long trip ahead. It is also much more...
