Mine does exactly the same thing. I'm going to drill a hole on the cover and put a 3/8 bolt for a counter balance. Also thought of a light duty spring as well.
Next project will be PMCS type stuff. Still need to change out the fluids etc. Went down and bought a gallon of Lucas Oil Stabilizer. I also have ATF to change out the Allison with. I also secured some GAA from Spruce Mountain.
Something I have noticed about the M939 is the lack of a pioneer...
VIC-1 Intall (Cont.)
Today I made some headway. Got the brackets all painted up and stuck them in front of the heater to expedite the drying process. I tend to get impatient when it comes to these green machines;-) I got most everything mounted in the cab. If you'll notice I put 4 control boxes...
Hi Del, on the M939 series truck, that's the prescribed location for the antenna mount. When under way, the antenna drapes diagonally over the hood and gets tied down on the driver side or the hood tilt handle.
Since we're on the subject, here's a link of radio installs in the M939 series...
VIC-1 Brackets
Just in case if you're wondering how I went about making my VIC-1 brackets. Here you go. I just used some steel stock I got from my local Home Depot. I simply used a piece of cardboard for my preliminary fit. This helped me to brainstorm a nice clean fit. Also it helped me...
Today I was finally able to fit my cargo cover on. I've had the cover but wanted to wait until I got things between the bed and cab completed. Working without the cover on was much easier;-). Fedex came by today and delivered my NOS Exhaust Stack. I mounted the flapper and I was good to go...
Yesterday I met up with Del (Beerslayer) and we exchanged parts over an outstanding breakfast burrito in Longview. My son is still talking about it;-). He keeps asking when we're headed back down to Don Pedro's for a bacon burrito...LOL. Had a great time chatting with you and getting ideas Del...
Wow Steve, that must be the truck Del (Beerslayer) was talking about today. Truck looks good! Glad to see that front bumper got painted correctly. Those CL pics drove me nuts with the mismatched green paint...LOL. Hmm, Del was asking if I was interested in convoy lights. I said no. However, now...
I've been doing a ton of stuff to my truck.....err not a ton...5 ton:wink: Got my build here.

All my air fittings were loose as well. I pulled all the fittings and re-taped them. The defrost cable must have gotten real hot because it melted into the housing that the automatic transmission shifter is mounted to. I need to pull the cable because it's pretty much seized. It won't move. I'll...
Did some touch up on the M923 today. Painted just the bumper with Behr paint. I didn't match the paint to this truck but just used my formulas. Matches pretty well with the rest of the truck. The truck was CARC'd in 10/09. The bumper was a mess with all kinds of units markings and GL rattlecan...
Got a couple things done today. I replaced a 3/8" OD airhose coming from the Spring Brake override on down next to the brake pedal. Not exactly sure what happened when the truck was in service. There was evidence of a shorted/melted wire behind the gauge cluster (black melted rubber drippings)...
