Okay, found some photos that might help explain how I cut this one down. This was about as far forward, and definitely as far to the rear, that was feasible.
Here you can see the offset, allowing the drive shaft to stay at the stock angle. And prevent a cartoonish rake in the process...
Rarely gets to 80 here, which obviously plays in. And since the (bionic) heater works very well, I know there's some temp in the coolant. Also, it's easy to tell when the engine really is warm by observing the oil pressure gauge.
Speaking of gauges, yesterday I noticed that the Volt meter was...
No, the 31-inch shortening is a little misleading in that it includes both what I removed from the frame at the rear of the cab and behind the rear spring hangers.
In other words, the wheelbase isn't a full 31 inches shorter. I'll dig up some photos later today that might help explain what I...
For what it's worth, my SEE's electrical system is also temperature dependent to some degree. No pun intended.
What caught me attention was your comment about the grounds being good behind the battery box. I thought that the ground went from the batteries to the disconnect switch, and then to...
One more thing to look into, at some point. My temp gauges show about 160 degrees no matter what. Well, once the engines are up to temperature.
How accurate those readings are I haven't checked.
They'll get long-life coolant in the spring, and that'll be the opportune moment to look into any...
Thanks, Willem. That's what UV can accomplish over time.
The mirrors are off of a friend's old Apollo motor home, with modified lower mounts and homemade upper mounts. Stuff I had laying around in other words.
Built in spares? Interesting. Alright, i dislike the diagnostic system's wiring a bit less now.
Until I end up chasing a sending unit issue, and eventually realize that I have been following the wrong wire.
And unlike General Hood, who paints, washes, waxes and polishes his SEE's (when he's not...

By the way, Bison, this 12" bucket is available not far from me.
Might be perfect for trenching in rocky ground. PM me if you're interested in it.
I'm picking up a regular 12-incher (closer to you) on Wednesday.
Hey, baby steps, alright. At least it didn't all get completely boogered.
No lifetime experiences, by the way. Didn't get into air systems until buying the Pete in '98, and hydraulics only came into play when deciding to find a way to operate the angling of a snow blade on my tractor (without...
You just cost me $21, Bison, as you inspired me to order 96 of those things, just so that I'll never need them.
This is why I'd hoped to farm out fixing up my FLUs to a nearby expert. Dump all that work on me, it isn't lack of time or ability or knowledge or gumption, it's just a lack of...
Thanks, Ahab. It's getting better. I even laid down on the horses' TheraPlate a few times to get it vibrated back into shape.
As long as it doesn't stay crappy for more than a few months, I can live with it. The first time it lasted some 30 years, the second time only a few weeks. Sure doesn't...
When time permits, my headlight switch will be gone. Three normal switches will take its place. One for headlights (okay, work lights in my case) one for parking lights, and one for the dash lights. And possibly a fourth one for the indicator lights. Maybe.
If memory serves me, the amperage is...
That's how my SEE is, too. The tach (and other things) won't work until the alternator starts charging, which takes a bit more rpm on that one. Which happens to be the one with erratic charging.
Volt meters only in my FLUs, too. Sounds like the originally planned to use that shunt - which I have...
Thanks, Bison, I'll try your version, too.
Not much progress on anything since I screwed my back up, again, dismounting SEE tires and loading up the wheels.
But it did give me time to fix the old fuel filter housing. The bleeder screws are not normal bolts like on the replacement setup I...
I happened across them in the "Parts for sale" section here on SS. They'd been posted for some time, and I got the last two sets at a very good price. Sorry.
But there might well be others ones out there, I'll keep an eye out.
I don't remember twisting my wrist any more than 90 degrees, but you may be right. Need to look at the decal set I got recently...if that one is included.
These days, knowing that the 4WD actuation is by air, I would suspect that 4WD may have disengaged when the low air pressure warning light...
Turn the lever one notch for 4WD, all the way to 90 degrees for diff lock.
Apples and oranges, but I'm used to levers and feedback from the vehicle. My Jeep, in particular. Yes, if it's in 4WD it's very obvious. Did someone unlock a front hub? Usually quite easy to tell when in 4WD. Did someone...
Earlier today I tried an idea I got last night and basically "lapped" the leaky valve I have, much like when seating valves in a head.
Used a drill motor chucked to the little "pin" and pulled down on it while running the drill motor at full speed. Did it work? Dunno yet, but will report back...
