I don't know if you have one in your area, but Tractor Supply sells off the shelf hydraulic hoses in standard lengths, some of them have JIC fittings. I have also bought hydraulic hoses at very reasonable prices on ebay.

The fittings on the MEP generators are actually AN fittings (stands for Army/Navy) JIC fittings are a civilian fitting that will mate with AN fittings, but are not exactly the same (JIC is cheaper to machine) AN fittings are designed with radius edges on the so can stand more...
One thing to keep in mind about wet stacking is that some designs of diesel engines are more susceptible than others. In general air cooled normally aspirated diesels like the smaller MEP series generators under 15KW tend to be the least susceptible, and water cooled (particularly turbo charged...
I have one of the Hardy LED meters (from the recall batch, recall was due to missing strain relief on the cord which allowed the sharp edge of the plastic hole in the case to cut into the cord), it is not readable in direct sunlight, is marginally readable in shaded areas or with cloudy a sky...
Type does not matter much, I would think most lined or unlined steel would be best, if you get a plastic one check to make sure it resist oil (there are a lot of different kinds of plastic, some become brittle when exposed to oil or sunlight), you also want to make sure that the previous...
Mobile is relative, the MEP-701 with the ASK housing weighs in a bit over 500 pounds, I think the plain MEP-002a is around 850, so while it is lighter portability is not that different. The Yanmar powered MEP-016d is probably the lightest of the family as it has the smallest engine, and the...
You never know on pink, last time I was making a pickup at the local GL site they had 2 or 3 rough looking pink/purple CUCV's sitting by the gate. This was at Ft. Polk which is home of the JRTC so they have lots of role players, mock up villages, etc. perhaps the pink was something they use to...
I suspect the L70 (320CC rated at 7 HP by Yanmar) powered MEP-016D will be more prone to being engine limited than L100 ( 435CC rated at 10 HP by Yanmar ) used on the MEP-016E (Yanmar refit of MEP-016b's) , or the 603CC Onan used on the MEP-016b (rated at 8 HP by the military, so who knows real...
It is not that old, at least in its rebuilt life, the Yanmar upgrade program started around 1999, the generator end and frame were probably built in the 1960's or 1970's. It sounds like you paid a very good price, I have a MEP-701a (016b in ASK) powered by a single cylinder Onan diesel and...
That is one of the Yanmar diesel converted MEP-016a / 016c making it now a MEP-016d.

p.s. the manual for the original a or c version should still cover all of the generator end stuff, and I am sure there is a civilian manual for the L70 series engine, I think the only change the military...
One thing to follow up on what derf said about the ratings of the MEP series generators, in general they are rated for output at 120 degrees F and 8,000 ft altitude in 24x7 sustained load operation with around a 300% motor starting load capacity for 10 seconds. Commercial standby generators are...
Ok, if your wanting to do minimalist and are looking at military surplus, you will likely be narrowing yourself down to the 5 KW MEP-002 or 3 KW MEP-016 family.
The MEP-016 family all share the same 3KW 3600 rpm 2 pole generator end, and break down as follows:
MEP-016a or MEP016c - Older...
HZ meters are common failure points on all the MEP series generators, like rosco suggested you may want to buy a good multimeter with a HZ setting, note I said GOOD, some of the cheaper ones with HZ settings can be thrown off by the waveform from a generator and may read fine on line power, but...
You may have a burned out winding, but my gut feeling here tells me you have a bad diode. You should be getting a lot more more than 50V AC when feeding in 30V DC to the exciter with the VR disconnected. Anyway diodes are just a few dollars to try, if the winding is shot then it is likely not...
Remember bigger is not always better, not only does a bigger generator tend to cost more, it will consume more fuel even when running at no load, and if it is a diesel will develop wet stacking problems if not regularly being loaded down to at least 50% capacity.
First off add up the amp load...
I was just wondering how many people here buy non-green (OD, not tree hugging) stuff from GL? For me it seems to be a mix which include all sorts of non-green items, such as commercial equipment (industrial generators, fork lifts, floor jacks), as well as office stuff like color laser printers...
I also have a problem with my top fan, it tends to build up moisture inside and stop working, every few months I have to remove the top panel flip the fan over and pour the water out, I turn it back right side up and it runs fine for another few months, getting all those screws out on the top...
also available on ebay from time to time, just had to buy one myself a couple of months ago for the same problem price was around $75, I think I had to search by the NSN
