Please let me know if you find suitable booties. It seems that installing new tie rods is standard procedure, but not replacing the ends and boots.
Since the stock tie rod ends can't be lubed, those boots are fairly important.
Funny you should mention that, Mark. Last night I was wondering how many SEEs are equipped with a fire extinguisher.
I keep Halon (or replacements) in my vehicles, but for whatever reason never did install any in the FLUs. And considering the cramped areas, complex wiring aided in its demise by...
Hmm, that looks like an over application of wax, which has dried. Didn't know that you also had a Hummer, General.
Either way, I have the only SEE in town regardless of color.
But I did recently find out that there are now three HMMHs in this state. Not bad, considering that it's just over one...
Good find, Mark! I always look for some way to lubricate anything that moves (grease is cheap, and so am I) and when working on the SEE I use Lubrication Order LO 5-2420-224-12 to help me remember some of the more obscure ones.
Without it, there are Zerks I most likely wouldn't have found, like...
There are quite a few to pick from, Gadget, but I searched "LED work light" and autvivid (ASIN B00XMT9534) came up. Just make sure that they're 60-degree (not 30) and multi volt. Well, I prefer the wider 60-degree versions, your results may vary.
Now, if you actually meant LED headlights, you're...
Had I not read about it in earlier posts, I probably wouldn't have figured it out myself. Anyway, pull the boom back, then when it starts to slow down, push the lever forward.
It's an over-center design.
Yeah, you really should look into using that "receiver" and a more proper jack setup.
And speaking of proper, who in their right mind would replace the tie rod, and reuse the old tie rod ends with shot seals?!?
This is the kind of stuff I keep coming across. Okay, I'm done with my rant. I...
Hey, I can't whine too much. Especially after getting reminded of speedwoble's SEE, and keeping in mind that this was supposed to be a non-functional parts car.
But I am disappointed in how it was serviced. Even a quickie lube should've noticed that all four reduction gear housings are low...
Mark, thanks for the tip. I can't recall seeing that one, but then I probably haven't read them all yet. Anyway, I think it's a rarity, or others here would've noticed it.
What I have started reading, again, is this thread from the beginning. Lots of good info which went over my head when I read...
I wish. But the Zerk's holes would still be at the ends, not on the sides, so the only result would be that the plumbing becomes more problematic.
With any luck, this particular "problem" cylinder may be the only one like it on a SEE. If they were common, surely someone else would've noticed...
Okay, here are photos of how it should look, and the way it does when the cylinder isn't quite correct. With the 90-degree Zerk fully visible, and accessible. And here's how it looks when the Zerk is at the top of the cylinder, rather than on the side facing out.
Yes, it's in there, but it was...
Ah, sorry, too tired to catch that it wasn't the bolt. Can you braze it back together?
If not, some SU fuel pumps have banjo fittings of about that size. As does Holley carbs, come to think of it.
The quickest way (unless you have good hardware stores nearby) is to make one. Having a lathe helps, but isn't necessary.
Either way, you should measure the diameter and pitch before proceeding.
Anybody else have an inaccessible (for all practical purposes) upper Zerk fitting on the bucket cylinder, appropriately called number 13 in the lube chart?
Eventually got some grease in that one, using a near perfectly sized 90-degree adapter. Obviously that particular cylinder is not entirely...
So what's the difference, General Hood, between one that sits unused in a government lot and yours that sits unused in your lot?
At least the gov. boys could probably get theirs started if they wanted to. (Sorry, couldn't resist kicking you while you're down).
I'll take your word for it, peakbagger. But I sincerely hope that I won't be stupid enough to forget opening the fuel valve again.
And when I do, I hope it's on the (formerly) parts SEE.
