Anybody use Milspray restoration paint ?

Temperature, humidity and time all are needed for conventional paint to cure. Conventional CARC uses the reaction between the two components to cure, it also needs heat and time. If it has been cool, wait a few weeks. On CARC, once it is mixed, it is relatively safe but still you have...

    Exterior Latex/Acrylic House Paints

Very nice. I'm restoring my MEP-002A generator and didn't want to spray because of all the masking of wires, hoses and gauges. I can do it with a 4" wide roller in under an hour. How is the fuel resistance of these paints?

    Flex fuel in a multi-Fuel...?

E85 has an anti-knock index (octane rating) that is far too high. This is why aviation gasoline is not allowed, the high anti-knock RESISTS compression ignition, meaning the ignition delay will drastically reduce power. Furthermore, alcohol is hydraulically "hard", this is why glycols are...

"Universal" Wiring for MEP002 and 003

Connected for 120/240 should be fine as long as there is a few hundred Watts on each leg. You might see minor voltage differences between the legs. Just don't expect to draw more than half the rated kW off one 120 volt leg.

    % Load on convenience outlets

Control transformer 1 (CT1) is what the % rated current meter is measuring. CT1 measures all windings, depending on position of S8. NEVER run any load over 500 Watts, even though the circuit breaker is 15 amperes which will support a 1500 Watt load. Why? Because the outlets are driven by...

Wondering if I have low compression in 003

Low compression usually isn't a leaking head gasket but most often valves. First, check valve clearances, 0.010" intake, 0.007" exhaust. Remove the intake tube and listen for leaks there, then listen through the exhausts. Yes, with a 10-12" ratchet, you can turn the engine over. Using a...

    Generator Questions From GL

An additional muffler won't help. They already have mufflers. If the Cannon plugs are all attached, the gauges clear and the unit isn't missing equipment like the control/output cubicles, it should only need filters and cleanup of the fuel system. That they probably have been sitting on the...

MEP-002A Low / High Hz frequency question

Proper connection of an external frequency meter is essential for proper reading. A loose connection can cause false readings. There is not much current as the meters are very high impedance.

    Wierd brake issue

OD Iron has the Star brand overhaul kits. The expander springs have cone ends. The springs causing the problems are just 1" in diameter, about 3" long and a plain cylinder. The attached image is from NAPA UP-176 is the part and the spring has cone ends

    Octane

Running higher anti-knock index gasoline (AKI) does no damage. All gasoline ignites easily by a spark, lower AKI gasoline will ignite easier from just heat of compression. This is why high AKI aviation gasoline is not recommended in the multifuel LDS series as these engines require...

    Brake line problem - HELP!

Yes, heat. Worked on mkcoen's M37 rear brake line. The hose was rotten yet with heat, it broke free.

MEP-002A Low / High Hz frequency question

Only the 10 kW came in a 400 Hz version which have a 20 pole field. If you are loading the generator with a motor, especially a universal motor (drill, saw etc), the low power factor can cause a digital frequency meter to go batty. Since you are new here, be very careful with using the...

MEP-002A Low / High Hz frequency question

Running an 002/003A at frequency lower than 55 Hz can overload the output transistor on the voltage regulator. Frequency is set by engine RPM. It is impossible to get 400 Hz from a 002A unless you were to replace the field with a 20 pole unit and run it at 2400 RPM. It has a 4 pole field...

MEP 002A Fuel Level Float Switch

Like I stated, resistance should be in the 35 to 50 ohm range, allowing only a half ampere of current at 24 volts DC. Use the 10 amp setting on your volt meter. Ohm's Law applies here, voltage is equal to current multiplied by resistance. Or V = I x R.

MEP 002A Fuel Level Float Switch

The solenoid valve should have resistance between 35 and 70 ohms. Specification current draw is 1/2 ampere. Usually, these fail open but rust could have shorted out the coil.

    MEP-002A Can't get 60hz @ 240v

Frequency is a function of the engine speed. RPM. These are four-pole generators, meaning the engine must turn 1800 RPM to make 60 Hz output. 1800 RPM is 30 revolutions per second. With a four pole head, that means two complete magnetic field reversals per revolution, making 60 cycles per...

Don't Let Your Brother-In-Law Drive Your Deuce

I would bet it was water in the starter solenoid. Or fried solenoid points.

"Universal" Wiring for MEP002 and 003

Unbalanced loads are a problem because the rotating field is excited to match the loaded windings. The windings which are not loaded experience higher voltage which can break down the insulation varnish.
