    Just won a M1010

That was a little work today...but the tank is polished clean. mkcoen now knows the feel of diesel sludge in his fingers . There was this little plate on the frame flange, right over the gap between the cab and box. This is a reinforcement to handle the stress. It has a press broke...

    dual circuit brakes

Just take the master cylinder hatch cover off and look. Dual circuit have plastic fluid reservoir with a cap that is removed by hand. It also is a PITA to add fluid since the hole in the cross member doesn't line up with the master cylinder opening. Yes, shoes, wheel cylinders and all other...

    Brake wheel cylinder AH HA!

I had discovered why so many wheel cylinders are leaking, cheap cylindrical springs without cup expanders. I had always thought these were rebuildable/repairable but checking the parts manual, I found the SMR is PAOZZ, meaning a stocked item that is replaced and DISPOSED at unit level, not...

    How can I add a 12 v Alternator?

Just get a battery isolator which can take a 28 volt input. Hook all your 12 volt loads to the 3rd battery which is charged by the isolator. 6-50 VDC Sure Power Battery Isolator

    How can I add a 12 v Alternator?

What is wrong with the converters? You have a perfectly fine 60 amp alternator, that is 1.7 kW of power and you only have a 200 Watt hotel load with full lights, 250 Watts at high beam. :driver:

    How can I add a 12 v Alternator?

A 12 volt converter that will drive 20 amperes at 12 volts off the 24 volt system is available from Marlin P. Jones for $130. Just wiring, no brackets, belts or worries. MPJA - Power Supply, Power Supplies, Security Cameras, LCD, Fans, Etc. if you need it. No need for a battery (~$50) or...

    Check out my new tool!

    ER309 is over-alloyed 304 stainless:-D. Keith_J does weld;)

    Check out my new tool!

Nice! Did you GTAW that yourself? What filler? All that Cr-Mo would scream over-alloy with an ER309 to offset brittleness unless you PWHT but that might affect box end durability.

    Optima Battery - Which One?

Be warned the Red Top is only a 48 amp hour battery in total capacity. Yes, it has impressive numbers for CCA but crappy reserve numbers. For warm weather, they should work. But for extended glow plug use, voltage depression can eventually cause them to fail. I used one in my TDI which...

    deuce question

M35A1 and A2. The A1 variant used the 426 CI variant which was not very durable, hence the A2 variant with the 478 CI 465LD/T/S. M35 was gasoline OA330 and A3s are diesel only.

    Alternator Crashed

They can but should not be relied upon. What happens is the field iron can have residual magnetism which then would provide enough stator current to sustain. Because a dead flat battery has higher internal resistance, this can work. As far as adjustment of the Delco Remy VR, I do not know.

    M151 Steering Gear Problem

Very relevant to my interests...I am working on fixing an A2 with about 20 degrees of steering wheel backlash. The tie rod ends are tight with no play. I feel all the backlash is in the recirculating ball gear box and can feel the ball plates crash in the case. It appears to have the same...

How much is a complete 12k service worth?

The bad seals are the ones ON some of the GL vehicles I have seen. Mostly bum outer seals (keyed "washer") but also the wheel cylinders (all overhaul kits have the cup expanders). The services the original poster is asking about as far as value are a real -20 and LO 12k with full brake drum...

How much is a complete 12k service worth?

You don't know what you are talking about. At the end of the service life, there were bad suppliers of parts, like the wheel cylinders (SMR code PAOZZ which means they are not rebuilt) and outer wheel seals. The replacement parts from non-military suppliers are MUCH HIGHER QUALITY. For...

    Alternator Crashed

You are THE MAN with the answer.. I was driving for a friend today and had the alternator problem, voltage in the yellow. Didn't have a voltmeter but used a test light and both B+ and sense had battery voltage, the sense turned off with master power switch. Adjustment didn't work. Bet it is...

    Alternator Crashed

Most motorcycle alternators will. These utilize permanent magnet fields, shunting each phase (they are 3 phase, just like the regulated field electromagnet alternators) to achieve stable, "regulated" voltage. They are just much less efficient, the regulator must dump considerable electrical...

How much is a complete 12k service worth?

The idea of selling a freshly serviced deuce is a sound one, considering most have been without TLC for the past 2-10 years, sitting up at DRMO/GL. The problem is convincing future owners that it has genuine worth, this is the selling point. And having the ability to drive it home instead of...

    Finally happened to me-no brakes

I have found the majority of leaking wheel cylinders to be inferior cup return springs. These springs are 1" in diameter, without cup expanders on the ends. This makes the sealing cups weep. Since there are 24 sealing cups, it doesn't take much of a leak to drain the master cylinder. $6.50...

    M35a2 block heater

Eventually, the thermostat will open, even with only 600 Watts of heat being applied to its downstream side because there is no forced coolant flow, only thermosiphon. The thermostat, being only pressed sheet metal, offers minimal thermal resistance. From the thermostat, heat and coolant will...
