I think dumptrucks don't need them because almost all of them except single rear axle dumps all have their rearmost axle as far back as can go, acting as a prevention to an underride. 30 years in emergency services and I've never heard of an underride of a dump truck.
And as was said, a car...
Yeah, that bed is bent up worse than it looks in the pic. It could be fixed, but would take some time and tools that I don't have. The tailgate's not too bad. If I could find an A3 bed that would be cool, I'd paint it in the Retro OD green. That's the only thing about an A3 I really like.
Actually, I probably wouldn't be that bad at welding, I just have too many other projects. A new bed wouldn't take but a couple of hours to put on. I'm not a fan of body work, I'm too picky. You should see how long it takes me to get drywall work done. I'm already working on part of the...
Cool thread! I'm restoring mine piece by piece too. I just decided to start at the front bumper and work my way to the back. Although I may jump around as opportunity presents itself.
Will the shifter go into the different shift patterns, or does it not just move when you put it in the different gears? How about the transfer case shifter, does it go between Hi-neutral-Lo okay? How does the clutch pedal feel? You should be able to feel the shifter moving the gears around...
I should just buy a house on the same block as Gimpy, then all my MV problems would be solved. :gimp: ;-)
I've been trying to use the "Win the Powerball lotto then I could just pay somebody else to do everything except drink beer" technique, but I ain't quite figured out that method yet...
Yeah, but by the time I buy a good welder and get skilled enough to use it, I could buy a good bed and have it all painted and undercoated, and be drinking a cold beer.
Well I went to try and knock a little drain hole in the corner of the bed when the water was deepest to drain it, I gave it one whack and two other holes opened up. I think this thing is gonna end up like Swiss Cheese if I clean it up. I kinda figured it anyway. And with the tail all boogered up...
Other than blanks and Pyro, I've never seen live ammo just go to the field. It always went directly to and from the range and the ammo dump. Nothing stayed out overnight. Range control didn't clear until ammo was turned in. But that may have been different overseas in Germany or something...
Real convoys aren't carrying ammo. They may have weapons, but ammo is very tightly controlled. The only time ammo is off base is if they are using a range that is not directly on base. Most ammo is shipped by civilians commercially.
As far as the black suburbans, I'd think they'd use faster...
My only criticism would be that what are the provisions for keeping out dirt and water?? Are there drain holes in the tray? If it were mine I'd think about a vinyl cover with snaps to keep the drawer protected somewhat. Other than that, great job!!
