Some times the gasket is very hard to dislodge. Tap harder. Its only two bolts. If you have them out, the starter WILL come out.

We put 24v to the lowest two wires that go thru the rubber insulator to the generator head the two thinner wires. This tells us nothing. What wire numbers?

Its not the right cover for your model truck, I think. But it fits and works. I would not worry about it. Fix it.

So, its a non military gen set. And you still haven't told us what it is.

But it starts, runs, and stops correctly? When you start it, will the volts and hertz meters go up for a split second, before dropping down? Where and how did you try to excite the main gen?

Or maybe open the water drain valve on the tank, and then start it? Still, if the tank is empty, would the start up load still be high? Never had a problem like that.

Track roll over happens more often than you would think. Most of the fatalities, military vehicle related that I can remember, were track vehicle related.

In the Army, we had a saying. "Gerber the hell out of it". That refers to being too lazy to go get the right wrench, and pulling out a Gerber Tool and using it in place of the right sized wrench. It will goober up a nut or bolt worse then a Fits All.

I thought about putting my hands in the scanner and showing you all the scars on them. Lots were made, by cheap crap, Fits Alls, slipping off nuts and bolts, when I was removing them. Sadly, I no longer have a Fits All that I was using when it slipped off, and grounded the large 24 volt...
