    Brand new FMTV spotted

RE: Re: RE: Brand new FMTV spotted BobS wrote: ...... FMTV is markedly superior to the M35 off road. At the Milford Proving Grounds (GM's PG in Michigan), I could take a loaded M35 around the track (including the 60 percent fore and 30 percent side slopes) in 5 minutes and 10 seconds...

    Brand new FMTV spotted

Re: RE: Brand new FMTV spotted Interesting response, makes me wonder about the constraints you had to work under. It certainly would have made more sense to widen or placed the bumper a little further out since it would make an excellent step for reaching the windshield etc. It also changes...

    pulling Deuce drive shaft

RE: pulling duece drive shaft Kevin, it's the drive shaft between the two rear axles. If not, they will be fighting each other at every turn and also if the tires are not exactely the same size. You will need the front wheel drive from time to time since the "one axle drive" is not so good on...

    Emergency shutdown

    Any statistics on multifuel runaways?

    E85 fuel

Diesel fuel is a byproduct of gasoline production. I think that's a fact. So, if you don't simultaneously reduce the need for diesel, there should be a surplus of gasoline as a result of burning ethanol.... IMHO the best way to use biofuels is to add plain veggie oil (not biodiesel) to diesel...

    Cranking current measured

Looked into it and the shunt is one of the "transducers" used when troubleshooting the electricals on the hmmwv . It is permanently installed and permits the measurement of the cranking current. It is wired to the DCA connector. What does DCA stand for anyway?

    Brand new FMTV spotted

RE: Some more pictures of the FMTV Thanks Bob for that information, yes, to repeat what David asked, don't let this dissipate into the past, the reasoning behind a particular design is always of value and often hard to figure out when looking at the end result. I admire my 1969 xm757 (m656)...

    Cranking current measured

Agree with you Lee. There are a couple of advantages with the shunt, one is that it was a lot cheaper than a Fluke clamp-on and it can be left in permanently for a gauge to display cranking current, a measure of the health of the starting system. The starting system has very few monitoring...

    JLTV

Here is more about the Growler, it appears not to be the perfect MV... http://www.sftt.org/cgi-bin/csNews/csNews.cgi?database=Unlisted%202007.db&command=viewone&id=34 It may need some training wheels, "Variable geometry track width" or whatever the technical term may be. :-) Lots of politics...

    abnormal tire wear

My above post did assume that the alignment was according to spec, of course... Here is the PS mag description of the toe-in measurement procedure: http://www.steelsoldiers.com/index.php? set_albumName=album25&id=ps245_p8_9_toe_in&name=gallery&include=view_photo.php I would also include new...

    abnormal tire wear

A lot have to do with the rear bogie being solidly coupled without a differential, it causes tire scrubbing at every turn of the wheel. If you spend a lot of time on paved roads, remove the stub axle between the two rear axles and note the difference. Smaller turning circle, better mpg and less...

    Cranking current measured

FWIW, temporarily wired in a current shunt and was able to measure the current draw during the cranking of the 8x8 engine. The big multifuel starts very easily, but I noted a reading of about 360 amps for a couple of seconds. The newly installed Chargetek 500 had been plugged in overnight, so...

Can't get my (heater) hose to stay in the hole

I keep them separate, the duct is attached to the panel and mates up with the heater blower intake when closed. A fat gasket could be used to help seal it better...

    15.5's on 13-20 rims

Nice set-up for the sand. Now to work on the drive train to prevent the hopping, going uphill without cargo. :-) What's the tire pressure? You guys notice his rear bumper? Nice touch.
