Austin Weber seems to have an endless supply of these, does any of you use them?
What are they made of, aluminum, plastic, steel..?
How deep are they, the "thickness" dimension and do they mount on a flat surface?
How is the wiring done? Is the switch hard to operate?
How is the light?
I have...
IMHO, it's not that critical, a couple of inches above the bottom is what I decided on.
There should be a filter in the line and I may be more concerned about running down the batteries than the fuel...
Chuck, make sure that the grounding of the control box is intact.
The lamp is tested by pushing it ("Push to test"), that way you know that the all important light works and ground is connected.
Here is the controller for the m656 (cargo), the xm757 (truck tractor) also had a fuel tank selector...
Use "Premium Tractor Hydraulic Fluid" it's viscosity is equivalent to SAE engine oil 10 weight.
There is a whole thread on this.

Finally found the coolant heater with the proper circulation pump as called out in the 8x8 TMs (except for the correct mounting brackets, but those can be fabricated). :-)
The tag states that it was tested in 1982, including for high and low speeds.
Looking forward to testing it again...
Yeah, good hard to find stuff. Apparently, these and other parts were removed from the M656s that Joe Naglich and Jim Henry sold to the Dominican Republic, since they were not needed, like the heaters. The image shows how the trucks are used down there, no heater, different cab top and different...
Sorry to see it go, Brandon, but perhaps it's just to overwehlming for one person to restore. Looks pretty complete.
Is the top vinyl, my 8x8 is from the same era and never had anything but vinyl? It should have kept the crew area from deteriorating in the sun. The air horns are positioned the...
The muffler specified for the xm757 5-ton truck is a Donaldson MKA08 5072 E8, is there a way to find out more about this muffler, I have tried googling it but nothing comes up and a search of Donaldson catalogs produces nothing so far....
Thanks.
Part of the problem with the part number could...
Needed a total of six pop rivets replaced and the right tool would have cost over $100, ebay to the rescue, Chinese riveting tool for about $20 plus shipping, even included the right rivets. Probable won't need it again for years....
Joe has a sh*t load of stuff warehoused, but not listed on ebay or anywhere else for that matter, if you are looking for a part, give him a call (814 834-1018). Who knew he had all those 8x8 parts...
He'll bring it to Aberdeen, I'm sure, if too heavy to ship.
As as stated, a bad connection could be fixed with a "wack".
The newer flasher units use a power transistor to do the switching and they are not easy to protect from overloads (the transistor itself is likely to fail before the protection circuitry has a chance to work). I took one new unit...
Visited Joe and John Naglich yesterday in St Marys, PA. Nice people!
The reason for the trip was to pick up M656/XM757 parts and I ended up with a haul, the tire was too much for the little Focus, so they are bringing it to Aberdeen for pick-up at that time...
Well I did get some hard to find...
