David, what percentage of the time are the trucks used to transport troops?
It may be a sensitive number, but the obvious point is that there should be a (possibly) new category of trucks, "armored cargo carriers".
Is there another input to this box? The MX-7777 is connected to the batteries and distributes "clean power", this box appears to get its input from an AM1780 or control box, so the damage is already done if there is a battery abnormality....
Is it simply a splitter, but then the use escapes me...
Re: RE: Multifuel not fully warming up, 160 F thermostat
Yes, but when you put the engine to work, the temp creeps up to where it belongs and the thermostat can modulate the temp. Over 195°F the T-stat is fully open and there no real control.
The only time I have had the temp stay over 195 was...
The tubing is for heating the batteries using coolant (from the coolant heater) and the slave recepticle is stock.
Batteries actually like to be cold, they live longer in a cold climate and die fast in the desert heat. The heating is only required to provide starting power, so it's only heated...
The battery box is getting full treatment, with insulation, heating and Chargetek 500 maintainer.
Some parts are near impossible to find for this vehicle, so the copper tubing for heating is home made and the insulation comes from a GI polyethylene sleeping mat. :-)
The air horn was added as an MWO, the original was an electric situated next the the head light below.
The location of the air horn is the same as on the Goer, BTW.
The door seal appears intact, but the pressuriztion lines are not installed on the tractor version, only on the M656 cargo, which...
Mike, it's primed with Rustoleum, will give it an OD to match the truck later today...
The muffler was galvanized and the top part stainless steel. It's a Donaldson MKM08 5072 E8 model, but I have not been able to find any spec on it.
This is a muffler, which was added in an MWO back in the '70s for this vehicle to reduce the "noise polution" while driving the backroads of Germany where these vehicles were stationed.
It may look precarious from this angle, but is also supported by the fuel burning heater exhaust pipe.
Haven't...
My '69 xm757 uses plastic airlines in some applications, like from the air tank to the gauge.
We are only talking 100psi or so and regular compression fittings are fine (plastic lines will benefit from inserts). Using plastic for air brakes is a different animal.
Before considering "pinion" brakes, please read up on them, they work via the differentials and are not suitable as service brakes.
The 260-20 manual (M809 5-tonners) states that the braking performance should be:
"Distance required to stop at 20 mph is 21.9 feet at 200 psi max pedal...
Keeping the top covered is a good idea IMHO, the bottom should be open, however to keep moisture from building up.
I think there is a PS magazine note on this....
Re: RE: Brand new FMTV spotted
Could get confusing after the first several paint jobs. :-)
What's with the "No Step" on the bumper?
Extending lifting points outward makes sense to eliminate spreader bars.
Re: RE: Weather stripping source
Thanks, for the offer, it is indeed the same material (except for the clearance holes for the screws) and the general dimensions of the deuce and xm757 door windows are the same if not exactely the same, but I will need about 8 ft of the stuff. I'm checking...
Does anybody have a source for this weather stripping used around the door windows, at least on the m656/xm757 series vehicles?
The width of the base portion is 3/4 inch. It may be classified as a "P" profile extrusion.
Thanks.
RE: It will tow what you want
You'll do fine on the flat and level road, but on backroads with hills you'll struggle along. Starting up-hill, you probably won't get out of first gear....
