Ideally you want the pin as tight as possible. So there isn't any "slapping" that could cause premature shear. But it would probably work just as well if you are gentle with it.
By looking at your data above and I could be wrong but 160 lb/ft should yield about 45,000 psi shear strength. So you should be looking for 2024 in a t4 or t351 temper which has about 42,00 psi shear. The 6061 t6 only has about 30,000 psi and I recall reading that someone tried this for a shear...
I just bought a new radiator from OD Iron in nov. I didn't want to fool with another half rotted one to change again later down the road. Not saying there aren't good used ones out there that are half the price though. If you can wait a month for it, you can buy it from the manufacturer for a...
I have completely missed this thread until today. My wife is one of the bartenders at the American Legion Post 40 in Glen Burnie. I am there alot, sometimes with the Deuce. If anyone wanted to join me for a few drinks and conversation let me know. There is ample parking most nights. But remember...
Any date is fine, I just have to call work and tell them I died or something and be back monday! I'll be there again this year as long as my truck will make it. anyone have a video camera that is not a hi-8! LOL Hey oldchev4x4, you got any green iron yet? Bringing the wife this year...
Ok , so I have a few questions. I'm driving my deuce up to Aberdeen and was wondering if there is anywhere to park other than the vendor spaces. I think I want a vendor space to park, so I will need the large space, right? Is camping allowed in your truck or do I have to rent a hotel room? I've...
i drive my Deuce to and from work every day. The wife can't drive it so she gets the '06 Jeep. She's only 4' 11" maybe 115lbs, can't see over the steering wheel and has to stand on the clutch to push it in. And yes, no power steering, maybe one day. I only live about 6 miles from work though...
sorry was thinking of a different cat model. glad there were those to jump right on my mistake. that engine should be more than sufficient for your truck. Were you upgrading the tranny? I don't know what kind of torque it can take. I've seen rock crawlers with deuce rockwell axles break shafts...
I work on cat engines and equipment pretty much all day. The 3406 is not a bad engine. Most have a precup type injection and is costly to reman. I think it is underpowered for your truck and would not be cost efficient to "build up" such an old model. Expect to drill out exhaust studs allot...
I guess I'm a lil late!
I put mine in the local fair. Pulled 296 feet of 300 in a 10,000# class.
I have some video of it too but don't know how to post it. I'll try photobucket or something.
The fan blade broke and went straight down to the lower tank. It dented it to where the tubes are pulling out of it. It also poked a small hole in the plate. I took it to executive radiator yesterday right after it happened. They said they could fix it but it will cost as much as a new one.$85...
