OK.... I am a dumb ______ (Insert your own adjective). Charging problem solved by adding a grounding wire from the engine to the isolated ground post on the drivers side alternator. Charging just fine now...
My torque converter and my engine are no longer friends, meaning there are no longer any bolts connecting the flywheel (flexplate?) to the torque converter. Reviewing the -34P, I came across something I found confusing.
Figure 81 shows the "Transfer Case Assembly and Adapter (Model 208). I...
Hello everyone. I have been trying to diagnose the charging problems on my M1009. I have read the thread about how to check the alternators while they are on the truck, but I don't understand the directions. My alternators don't have the markings discussed in the thread. The charging system...
Technically, both of my CUCV's are modified as I have applied the Doghead Starter Relay Modification. Additionally, I added the "High Note Horn" to my M1009 so I could have both tones. I will do the same to my M1008 unless I opt for a Train Horn. In Oklahoma, you better have a LOUD horn...
You are, as always, so spot on. I replaced the fried glow plugs with AC Delco 13G's (all eight) and my truck started immediately. I too want to keep my vehicles stock for as long as I can. My next step will be to replace the rectangular fuel filters mounted to the fire wall. I have no idea...
Thank you sir!!!! I have copied this information and I put it in my binder. I wonder if I should take the time to test my new glow plugs. Once I put the new plugs in, my truck fired right up. I have begun to realize that I am my CUCV's worst enemy. All this time I thought I was doing...
I would like to test my resistors, but I am unsure as to how to accomplish this. I have several multi-meters, but that doesn't mean I am well versed as to how to use them. There are many settings on each meter and I don't know what they all do. If I understand this thread correctly, I should...
Thank you for the response...! Checking each end of the resistor makes sense. I hadn't considered that path. I will continue to investigate how to check these resistors. I would like to keep my truck stock if possible. If my resistors are toast, I think I get replacement parts from...
I replaced the batteries as the crew at O'Reilly Auto determined they were bad. I did not order the G-60 Glow Plugs. I ordered the AC Delco 13G plugs as recommended in other posts. They are due in tomorrow.
I would like to test the resistors. I imagine the way to test the resistors is to...
CUCVRUS.... You were right on the money! All 8 glow plugs were inop. I remember a while ago that I left the key on overnight, which is what probably fried them. New plugs are ordered and should be here by tomorrow AM.
Thank you for the reply. I will check my glow plugs shortly. I never thought I would again use the glow plug tester that I built, but it seems that now I have a reason...! (Too Much Time On My Hands - Styx)
Hello All.... My M1008 has suddenly determined that it no longer wants to be my daily driver, refusing to start. I recently replaced both batteries so my starter seems to crank quickly. Today, I noticed that the GP solenoid clicks on/off rather quickly. I am used to turning the key, hearing...
Awesome.... that is why it is in a PDF file. The colors won't look the same but everything else should be OK. Please let me know if you find mistakes so I can get them corrected
I am not certain, but lets ponder.... The "Low Coolant" sensor is nothing more than a switch. If the switch is open (not connected to ground), nothing happens at the instrument cluster. If the switch is closed (completing the ground), the instrument cluster light illuminates. Knowing this...
You have to eat an elephant one bite at a time. I would suggest that you start with the front of your CUCV. There is a wire harness that runs from the drivers side (DS) firewall, across the DS fender to the front of the truck. At this point, the wires branch to provide power to the DS...
