With cool ambient air temperatures and an empty truck my truck takes a long time to warm up the engine to produce good heat. You said your engine temp gauge is not working so are you sure your coolant is really getting up to normal operating temperature? Maybe check with an IR thermometer.

I replaced my stock air dryer with the PURest air dryer. I found the the PURest air dryer purges with much less noise than the stock air dryer. I think the quieter purges are worth something... to me anyway.

Third from Texas is correct. These trucks shift hard. Make sure the truck is good and warm. It takes a while to warm up all that oil. Also, the shifts are going to seem harder when the truck is empty. Try it with a 2 or 3 tons in the back of the truck. It is quite different.
