According to the TM and Allison both, you don't need to replace the gasket - it is re-usable. However, I would definitely recomend replacing the gasket. If the old one is re-used and leaks, you need to drain and drop the pan again, which is a pain.
I have an M149A2 water buffalo, ex-uSMC, that is in excellent condition, but I am having difficulty with the manifold valve. This is a push - pull valve. Pushed all the way in and the water is cut off from the faucet boxes. Pulled out and the water flows through the pipes to the faucet boxes...
If the Optima batteries will fit in the battery box, cable connections are OK, and they have enough CCA, they will work. Optima batteries come in different models. Orbitals are smaller dimension than 6TLs so you would need to secure them.
Are you sure the 6TLs have gone bad? I would recommend checking the cable connections and charging system before replacing the batteries. Will the batteries take a charge from a charger?
I'm jealous. I love the Ma Deuce. I shot a lot of M2s in the Army, mostly turret mounted on M114s and M113s, but some tripod mounted as well. They just feel good when shooting and are actually fairly accurate when shooting singles.
The only benefit for using the A2 20-inch wheel instead of the A3 18-inch wheel is more leverage when turning the wheel. If your Air-O-Matic is working, you don't need the extra leverage and all you do is minimize the room behind the wheel. I've seen a lot of NOS A3 18-inch wheels for sale if...
Ditto!
Ring mounts look cool, but they are a real pain to install and they get in the way and you are absolutely correct, they attract heads like a magnet. They also raise the height of the truck limiting entry into some buildings that previously had no clearance problems. All that being...
Dropping the spare tire on a deuce is extremely dangerous. Another thing to watch out for is the pawl skipping out. Never, never, never assume that the pawl is holding the wheel! It is not that difficult to unwind the crank safety. Do it slowly. Also, when cranking back up make sure the...
You can also pick up a take-out transmission for a reasonable price if you trust the seller. That's what I did when my A2 transmission lost 5th gear. Mine shelled a lot of teeth. $200.00 for a takeout and no problems since.
I would pull the top cover and check the forks. A fork may be bent or loose. Move the gears into 5th with the cover removed, then move shifter into 5th and see if the forks line up properly. Pulling the cover is easy and you can also get a good look at the gear condition.
You will hear a lot of bad comments about GL because people that are mad tend to complain more. People with good experiences tend to keep quiet. I personally have had only good to very good experiences with GL. That being said, there are some that have had bad experiences. A lot of it depends on...
I was afraid of the top plate cracking as well if I notched it. However, it would still provide some support if I noted it. I also wondered about notching it and welding a short piece of angle to the top to help handle the stress where I notched it.
I have a 69 A2 as well, but it does not...
