    Catastrophic Failures

I asked Chris if I cuold post some pictures of som ugly failures I see at work. He sid sure, so here are some. We get about 2 to 3 major failures a month, so I'll snap some pics as they come if they are interesting. All of these are in process repairs. I'll try to get them as they come to me so...

    Rod bearings, failure mode

An easy way to spot a failure, if the oil isn't crude oil black, is to look for the darker colored rod or main cap. Same with an upper bushing failure. The top of the rod will be very dark or blue. Also, bearing material likes to extrude itself from the failure. Look for little jaged edges...

Trouble-shooting the Protective Control Box in a 5-ton

Chris, The fuel pump has a manual setting. It's on the solinoid where the wire is, at the front. It's a knurled knob. Just turn it in and use a starter button. The engine will start, but won't shut off. You can turn the knob out to shut it off. All this is if it is an 855 cid engine. If it's a C...

    Rod bearings, failure mode

Bjorn, I've seen mains spin and cause knocks too and have even run them on the dyno and the only indication of the failure was white smoke out the breather under a load only and a knock similar to yours, down low. Usually, if a rod bearing fails on a diesel, the engine won't last too long...

    More Power In a M936A2

I forgot, make sure the throttle lever goes to full throttle, not just the lever breaking over, the pump has a stop screw. Make sure that when your foot is to the wood, the little tab on the hard lever is hitting the stop screw.

looking to buy M35A2 what to look for?

Check for water in the oil, oil in the water, hoses, belts, brake fluid level, see if it will start, look at battery cables, tire condition, roll under it, check diff and trans/t-case fluids, u-joints, body damage, glass, steering play, clutch play and, if it runs, engagement, see if all the...

    Hand held spots

I got some cool hand held spot lights from sermis when he had his sale. Tested them both, and they work great. Just wondering if anyone knows where I can get ends that fasten/screw into the end of the handle for power. These aren't the exact lights, mine are hand held and have a mag mount! But...

    More Power In a M936A2

If you didn't mess with the pump, ie taking the AFC housing off, 3 things that are very common on the P7100 pumps in both the B and C series. The first and easiest thing to check is the FSOV link and capscrews that hold it to the AFC and governer housing. The bolts come loose and/or fall out and...

    Windshield wiper motor part?

Dunno if you can get just parts for them. If you end up buying a new one, make sure it's not the plastic housing, the rivit things in the front pull out real easy.

RE: Re: RE: Price check on rod bearings, please If his engine was rebuilt at the depot level, the data plate should show that the crank was ground and to what undersize.

    Starting Without Hurting

Give it a few 7-10 second cranks with the shut off cable pulled out. The O/P should come up a little faster after that.
