    M116A3 Jack Leg repair

Yeah - I'm trying to figure out what the original handle looked like considering what room you have to operate it, where it would be when stowed and how it fits into the "R" pin keeper on the lower portion.... Pictures please existing owners!!!

    M116A3 Jack Leg repair

But I do need a winding handle or a good pic of one, as 'mine' was missing.

    M116A3 Jack Leg repair

Recent acquisition of former generator trailer - found mangled jack leg in the ground rod storage locker. Nearly all of the individual components were bent, broke, distorted or combinations there of. Bevel gear shaft was bent and distorted bushing housing on one side. Bigger hole was...

    Wire rope m816

Scott - yes you are correct re using fixed hooks otherwise cable will unwind under load, then attempt to "birds nest" when paying out with load removed.

M116A3 from Chambersburg - pull or load out?

Thanks all for the info. Looks like I'll be needing a parking brake handle too - any thoughts? Special shout out to Simp - good to meet him late last night. Did the pick up for me and got it to within 2 hours so saved me almost a whole day. Also got to see his M916 and M870 in action. Sure...

M116A3 from Chambersburg - pull or load out?

Just reprinted NY DoT form MV 274 - "Trailer type vehicles not requiring registration" that I'll take a copy of with me - all I have to do is pull off the tool box that is mounted on the front of the frame and throw it in the pickup. Examples given:- generators, log splitters, welders, tar...

M116A3 from Chambersburg - pull or load out?

Collecting from Chambersburg PA - does anyone know if I am ok to leave there with a temp plate and light bar behind a vehicle and NOT on another trailer? (Need experience/fact, don't need opinions.)

M871A3 how tall flat bed/step deck?

So - just seen a few of these get sold recently and am wondering how tall they are. They sit on 22.5's and look pretty high at the back, sloping down to the front - would they sit level on a M916A1/2 which has a 60+" fifth wheel?, or are they supposed to run nose down on a regular 6x4...

    M936 Tug-o-war, spade use vid.

Actually, the problem was that the civi wrecker had the advantage of it's weight - only a slight advantage of the raised height of the pull. The 936 spades weren't dig in enough initially - and longer ones would be better (though totally pita to stow and deploy) as the angle of non rigid spades...

    M936A2 wrecker 20k front winch

Do a thread search for "ESMET fitting" - it's all been documented and they are still manufactured so a factory tech instructional sheet is published. Just make sure to use the little window hole to ensure depth.

    M936A2 wrecker 20k front winch

Just a thought - and I can go measure mine - but is there any chance someone swapped your front for a rear levelwind roller frame? That would give you a large gap for sure!!!

    M936A2 wrecker 20k front winch

No cable on mine at the moment - but I threw on a strap to show correct routing, also a pic of trolley for you to see roller clearance from earlier query. Mine is mechanical (M816), but the winch / set up is the same - it should load from the back and pull down - anticlockwise looking from...

    M936A2 wrecker 20k front winch

Er no - it's not wound right or threaded through the level wind/tensioner wrong. Pic too close. Either direction, the cable should leave the drum and go to the level wind cleanly (straight line from drum tangent to tangent of level wind pulley).

    M936A2 wrecker 20k front winch

I just went to Wallyworld/craft store, got a sheet of felt from the fabric section. Cut out "washers" and stacked them up to make the thickness. They only keep the grease clean from crap from outside.

    M936A2 wrecker 20k front winch

I have rebuilt both of mine (M816) and did a thread on each in the 5 ton forum. Needle roller bearing free up, lube point upgrade, possible bearing replacement etc.

    M936A2 wrecker 20k front winch

Your observations are valid, though unless the "bridge" rails are bowed - larger gap at the top than either lower ends, I personally wouldn't worry too much. If you 'shim' the rollers further out, you will unload part of the rollers needle bearing, thus overload the remainder which is not...

Wreckers: Do people buy them for hobby or use?

Using an electric winch would be an option, especially if you had something with elastic properties between the two it would indicate when you needed to pull with the 'helper' winch. Pay out the drag winch and keep flicking the electric winch controller to re-tension the connection as it pulled...
