Use #500. Bringing home a 6-7 ton of firewood. First real use I've done since pulling the deuce home. I didn't lay in enough firewood back in the summer. So it was time to get some. The wood years I use is about 60 miles each way and cheap. Stuck with green wood unfortunately, but better that...
Did the first real test of the new set up yesterday. Finally got the chance to get the deuce & m105 home.
It's probably 90-100 miles each way & if you know south west Missouri, it ain't exactly flat land. Lots of river/creek valley's.
Truck did great on the way down. Ran 60-65 on the way down...
I prefer three axles. Not a big fan of bobbers myself. As for the kick vents, I probably could have fudged it. Was a matter of a couple inches. But with knowing that I'd be keeping the front rear axle, I decided to be cautious. It's still plenty big enough for a family of six. I can take some...
Everyone does them on the frame still because, no one has a jig. If I'd have had a jig, I would have used it in an instant. Instead I had a tree, a chain hoist, and a lot of cussing. Got it done though. Sorta.
My only real concern with building a cab off chassis would be the little things that...
I'm not rolling 11.00's. I'm on14.00's. It is the stock Spicer OD trans and the T-1138 is OD as well. It is a work in progress, with much tweaking left to do. I never was good at leaving things "stock".
Read through Opcoms thread. He's one of the first, if not the first to do this mod. I...
I think I'll be holding off on the generator idea till next year. It'll cost about the same as finishing up the front drive shaft and air lines. I'd rather have 3 live axles before I dive into another big project. Gives me more time for research anyway.
I did however pick up a block heater...
Appreciate it Red. I've never been able to make it through the whole thread before. So I've no idea what all is in it.
It'll be months before I've got the scratch to afford anything. I'll be fiddling with the juice brakes for now.
Now off on another tangent. I've come across a mep-015a and a...
Red, is there a thread on your brake conversion?
I'm at the very beginning of this train of thought on this one now. So any advice from those who've done it is greatly appreciated.
I'm more than familiar with the S cam brakes as M1 did. Years of being a OTR driver.
I'm not very familiar with...
Got it in and going over this long weekend. I haven't run a line for the front interlock yet, as I don't have a front shaft yet. Don't have a speedo cable either, but there's an app for that. 5th gear is all but irrelevant in town now. Turning 1500 rpm at 45 in 4th gear now. Got brave enough to...
Finally got a decent day to get some more work done. Got everything located a week or so back. The jack shaft fits wonderfully. Situated all the mounts forward and marked for drilling.
Plugged off the upper actuator thingy. Got all the holes drilled and reamed out. Which sucked. A lot. Got the...
Good choices as well. For some reason I have never owned an air compressor. Rules out the air hammer and plas for me. Maybe some day when I have a real garage.
I personally don't know which is a stronger case. Both have their virtues and draw backs. I personally am not a fan of the sprag set...
Well as it just so happens due to a twist of government procurement programs. Those 4 bolts I was asking about are the same as the bolts which hold the mounting bracket to the T138 transfer case. Which are 5/8-11 x 1-1/2". This also happens to be the same size as the studs for the mounting...
I'm doing this someday. Already got the fifth wheel and ramps from the 818 sitting in the yard. Just need a 900 and some other projects finished up first.
Looks great. Eager to see her done.
When we bought a deuce, I'd the same problem with the air pressure. Checked all kinds of stuff to fix it. Ended up having a bunch of crud stuck in the pressure relief valve on the air tanks wedging it open. hopefully yours is something simple like that.
Truck sounds good.
I've used the black bottle 80/90 from oreilly's (their store brand)for as long as I can remember in both MV's and regular trucks. In my non MV trucks, I've always added an additive of some sort such as Lucas. However, I personally am looking more and more at the new school products. Probably...
Can anyone happen to know the size of the 4 bolts which hold the parking brake assembly to the T1138 case. They weren't in the box of parking brake parts.
Well, got the T138 out finally. The thing's a beast.
Decided to set it next to the T1138 and do a few comparison photos for those who've never had the opportunity to see the two types side by side. I never had.
The adapter for the jack shaft bolted right up. Had me worried. But seeing is...
Wait. You get paid??? How do I manage that action?
I should have kept my butt a truck driver. This management thing sucks. 12 hour days for low pay & no appreciation. With 10 times the headaches & stress. Really didn't think that through.
We homeschool though. So on a decent day math is done...
Nothing tells you that you're a slob quite like having to take the seat out of your truck.
I swear I clean the trash out every few weeks. I thought so anyways. But on a plus note, found the coffee cup I've been looking for. For about two years now.
Old case is ready to come out tomorrow. Just...
Putting an automatic in definitely ain't worth the the cost. Not by a mile. Just like doing something different. I've got an Allison at545 sitting in the yard that may get used instead. Haven't really put much time into that particular idea idea either way yet.
I'm know she can learn to drive...
