Ooooh shinny new pump.
I'm replacing the whole dang fuel system from the pump to the tanks. Installing a transfer pump between the passenger side tank and the driver side. Be gone vile selector valve. More trouble than it's worth. Single line from the tank to the filter, new pickup tubes, &...
Got the small one between the solenoid and the pump as well as the large in the solenoid itself. Courtesy of the nice folks at the local cummins dealer. They gave me a nice diagram of the solenoid.
We're going to be in your neck of the woods again in April.
Well I believe I'm about concede defeat. It may be time to break out the tow bar & take him to a shop.
I have replaced every piece of rubber line, half the hard lines, the filter, shut down solenoid, every o-rings, tried with an inline pump & with out, checked the pick up tubes, pressure...
A happy find at my favorite army navy store tonight. And dirt cheap at that. Got the tm for the spicer 3053a transmission to. Maybe my luck is improving.
I haven't been able to check the pickup tubes yet. Unless I read the tm wrong which is very likely as the pdf one doesnt click as well as a paper copy for some reason. The solenoid was kaput. Found the electrical half yesterday and got it installed, with new seals. Truck fires up real good now...
Ok. So I didn't realize that the knob was already screwed in all the way in. The transport drive had said that he adjusted something, & now I guess I know what. I adjusted the knob back out & the truck won't start. So I suppose that a new solenoid is now in order.
New o-rings on the switch valve & new hoses all the way around on it.
New o-rings on the primer pump.
New filter.
New hard line between filter and selector.
New fittings in almost every location.
New fuel.
And after all of that. Exactly the same thing as before. He'll idle great, but falls on...
Got new lines today, & wasn't that just a treat. Oh the looks & questions. It's a 5ton what? They say. But anyways, got 6 new lines made & will be at it early in the morning. Hopefully I can get the o-rings replaced tonight.
M1, love the inline pump. Will be doing something similar before long.
The fittings on the return lines are crimped on. Otherwise I would re-use them. The tank advice is sound advice. Wish I had been warned sooner. But the best way to learn a truck is to have to work on it. After this I'll be able help someone else with what I have learned.
Took the selector valve off during my lunch break today ( sometimes it's real handy driving a local truck for a living ), & May have found the culprit. The fuel lines, they be cracked. Not God awful bad, but weather cracked non the less. So after getting the deuce it's stupid yearly inspection...
Started to take the tool box / spare rack off, & holy poop. I thought 395's were heavy, but 14.00's just plain crazy heavy. I'm going to pull the pick up tubes & inspect for holes, replace the rest of the lines for both tanks (I may run hard line depending on how froggy I feel), get another...
Forget beaver killin. Take that puppy to a drive in picture show. I bet you've got room the ole hibachi grill up there too. Put a tarp in the bed & you can take the pool with ya.
Seriously though. That's pretty nifty.
This is my next plan. Might be a while though. My wife has informed me that I must get her Bronco fixed before I can fiddle with the truck. Oh the joys of not having a garage to work in, & it's about to get cold again. Anyone wanna help pull a 351m out of a 79 Bronco. Just gotta do rods & mains...
I can almost relate. Just not sure yet. Tightened all the lines after work today, then let him sit and idle for about 30 minutes while I worked on dinner. All the while just idling away like nothing has ever been wrong at all. So ok, it almost dark & things are going good. Let's go for a drive...
Well after a day of fiddling off & on I have this to report. I have double checked the little filter on the pump & it is good n clean. The truck will idle just fine till until the engine is revved up. Then once it slows back down (neither revving nor slowing back to a idle is very responsive...
PITA with his not so little sister Meradith a 1970 Kaiser Jeep M35a2 rolling on MRAP's and 395's. So I guess they're non-identical twins since both are 1970 manufactured year.
