Most grease points like tie rod ends, spring eyes, u-joints and such are pumped until you see fresh grease oozing out. Do not overgrease the upper and lower king pins as the bushings are not that big and if you fill the steering knuckle up with grease the truck will be difficult to steer in the...
Don't make a move without a lubrication order. A cargo truck has something on the order of 39 grease points, more if it has a winch. The amount of grease they take is, in part, a function of how long it has been since they last saws the attention of the grease gun. Some of these fittings are not...
Reference post 15: disregard reference to 5 ton. Zerks on crossover shaft may be an issue if they have been neglected long enough and bushing are worn to point that crossover shaft wobbles but that might not be the source of the noise noted.
The average wrecker has level winders on both front and rear winches which are missing here. This does not dispel the mystery if the Army made this modification or a previous civilian owner was involved.
CO2 extinguishers are friendly around electronics and even food. The problem is they remove or replace the air surrounding the fuel. When the cloud disperses and the fuel or immediate surrounding are still hot it will probably reignite.
Does your truck have a non-stock fuel tank ? If the pump is missing there would be a large round hole on top of the tank and there would be no way to supply fuel to the engine as the feed is through the pump. The pump is there because Continental wants the injector pump to be supplied with fuel...
The issue with pintle towed trailers is to get the load balanced so (front heavy) you don't overload the drawbar or bring the front wheels off the ground or (rear heavy) lift the back of the towing vehicle off the ground either of which could result in overloaded tires and axles. trucks 2.5t and...
Don't make a move without the pubs: operators' manual, organizational maintenance manual, lubrication order. These may be available on this site or on ebay or at swap meets. The organizational maintenance manual will describe various trouble shooting techniques. If you can find someone with...
As post 16 suggests trailering a dead horse is the safest way to move it. Also eliminates pesky issues with registration and insurance.
In an earlier life I survived a 300 mile tow of a dead M813 with a M62 (gas) wrecker from Ft Drum, NY to NJ. The throttle on that wrecker was wide open every...
While your esteemed governed has you in lockdown look for the publications pertaining to this piece of equipment , either in digital or paper form, obtain them and read them. The greatest kept secret in the United States Military is its publication system. Don't make a move without the pubs...
Fuel pump came back from vendor. Cost was $26.00 for parts, mostly seals and o rings. Labor $400.00 Leaks were caused by dryed out and cracked o rings. Besides leaks situation made it difficult to start engine if hadn't been run recently.
Post 3 has the straight skinny. Do not make a move without the pubs. Read the reading. Also find a lubrication order which will identify all then grease points of which there are many. Neglect them at your own peril. Grease is cheap, parts cost money. A M151 has 3ea grease points on the half...
Reference to posts 12, 13, and 14: having done several drawbar tows in an earlier life it is my experience certain vehicles will not "track" or follow the leading vehicles. M37s were the worst, the steering would travel from one extreme to the other and back if the steering wheel was not...
I guess it would work in gear. With a front winch, if you put the trans in 1st, the transfer in low and the winch pulling in in low the wheels and the cable speed ,match. Pumps are directional so you would put T case in neutral and trans in direct drive to run a fuel or water pump. A M123 has a...
tires inflated, oil in all 3 differentials and transfer case ? Transfer in neutral ? Some of these things do not track well and it may necessary to tie the steering off unless turning a very sharp corner. Safety chain between towing and towed vehicle ? Light bar on rear or chase vehicle...
