Looks great! In my hands, thick body filler over time tends to crack. Lead might work BUT you need a respirator.
JB weld soaked gauze might also do the trick.
Excellent idea. Maybe the less mechanically inclined should use a pliers to hold the soap near the belt, or else count fingers before and after the test and them compare the numbers…
Seriously, awesome method to check belt.
There is another option…
Hummer H1 just went out and bought Aluminum and made a custom top. Looks amazing. He frequently posts pictures, so I will copy one below. He made a flying nun style roof.
You can also fabricate a roll cage and then attach a custom top. Probably save thousands.
This was an original civilian H1 HMC4 top repurposed and stripped down by Uncle Sam. HMC4 civilian tops can be had for at least $5K, or so I am told.
No idea about military part number, but I bought this rig from RWH, and he might have a better idea of where to look for part numbers. (Thank you...
Thanks MaxJeep1.
In conclusion, Eric and I did what MaxJeep1 describes. We removed unit single piece by piece. We then tilted the muffler by pivoting it on the rubber support to get access to the rubber support. We then cut the rubber muffler support rubber to get around pulling the stupid...
My M1165 has a Hummer HMC4 top. Others have the top and rear curtain as posted.
My point is that there are at least two iterations. Make sure you get parts for one and only one version.
Catalytic converter is legally required. Muffler is not.
Gonna use working catalytic converter. Gonna attach to custom stainless straight through pipe instead of muffler.
Rubber on support bracket is aligned perpendicular to muffler. I will use old tire to make new rubber loop at 90 degrees to...
Well, pulled the exhaust system. Finally!
Unconventional removal. Finally forced the bolts in the cat converter out. Dropped the cat. Then cut the rubber support for the muffler so support bracket removal became a non-issue.
Horsepower has returned!!! Haven’t checked shifting.
Gonna do glow...
H2 rims will fit with some minor modifications, for a reasonable price.
Hummer H1 17” split rims will fit but are pricy. You can keep Runflats with these.
Cepek 17” rims are an awesome choice. They have correct offset and take over 3000 lbs per corner. He makes custom Runflats for these.
Have you read about Nissan Armada spring thread?
Have you considered swapping to Hummer H1 Wagon style springs and shocks? Have you considered adjustable CEPEK shocks from Tom Cepek?
I’ve helped a few members with similar issues. Simple affordable DIY solution.

I just drove and Eric/Hummer H1’s pick up. He has converted to 12 V. He has converted the dashboard to all electric gauges. He has soundproofed it. He has custom-made an aluminum roof.
Yesterday we went for a drive. We had a conversation in low voices. He is not finished soundproofing, however...
With swear jar at the ready, I tackled the oil cooler. A day earlier a double rainbow gave me hope that I might meet with success.
The shallow soft steel hex heads are… challenging.
Blow torch for each one. Loosen and tighten technique. Two came out easily. One came out after I hammered in a...
No power. Black smoke. Rechecked timing and TPS and all correct.
Spoke to Steve and worked with Hummer H1.
Eric and I had disconnected the exhaust early on for other reasons. Yesterday I reconnected. Suddenly no power. Timing and throttle sensor were checked. Still issues. Texted with Steve...
Respectfully, all caps posts are a no-go.
Profiles require city and state IIRC. Please fix your profile.
What year and what model?
Did you replace the fuel and ensure the water is removed from the filter?
Is your injection pump functional?
Is white smoke exiting your exhaust?
Is the...
