Sounds like a bad rubber fuel line from the tank. On the 800's the line leaks air and will idle low for a long time until the air is bleed out and then she takes off. Mine was doing the exact thing and I replaced the line and filter (with new can gasket) and poof fixed.
It may be the seal in the high pressure fuel pump that is inside (on the side) of the injection pump. The pump takes the 4 psi from the tank and bumps it to 65 psi and feeds it to the FDC
look in the TM and you will see the seal. Its a part that can not be found.

I ran my 04 duramax on 80%+ on WMO and did not have a problem for the first 20K miles then the injectors cocked up.
One tank of 100% diesel and she was cleaned out.
I would guess if you run a 50% mix of WMO and pump diesel that has been filtered very well you should be ok.
