    UK APC's/Tanks (FV432/CVRT) in States

Dave - yes, we have "talked" before. Don't want to 'become' and importer, with all that that entails, but just have the contacts and UK funds etc. I know that there is a demand in the US, also a fear/advcersity to get involved with anything that is 'out side' the lower 48. Been into Land...

    UK APC's/Tanks (FV432/CVRT) in States

Just got back from visit to UK (visit family friends etc.) and I plan on importing a CVRT &/or FV432 (433, 434) series tracked vehicle - play with for a while then sell. Have contacts, transport, storage etc., all lined up in UK with old friends - NOT dealers. I am wondering how much interest...

Calling all British Military Vehicles 2013 British Invasion Stowe VT sept 20-22

Having been to the show before - I'd say no. Its a show to celebrate British manufacture. So a Dutch Army Land Rover - all correctly painted with NL decals etc., would be ok, but a British Army painted 'Mog would not. Just my 2c.

    M54 parking brake issues.

Not sure if Bill is still around... but go find the antique tractor boys. Brakes can still be relined, jusy got to find the right contact. I have an old Garwood winch and was pointed in that direction by a local Antique John Deere restorer. No idea now where that was though - 'twas a while...

    Pintle size mis-match. Easy fix??

Wouldn't it be easier to change out the lunettre eye on the dollies? This could be done by just burning a bigger hole in a suitable piece of plate then a hour or so of grinding. Also, Military lunette eyes are out there - there are a often people who civilian'ise military trailers by changing...

Wrecker rear winch fairlead roller rebuild

$1.50 fix per side. 1/8" NPT nipple (short) and an 1/8" coupler. Now grease fitting is raised out of cavity in top cap that holds water. So, cavity can be filled with silicone etc.

Wrecker rear winch fairlead roller rebuild

Progress: Managed to get all the bearings freed up or stripped down, cleaned and rebuilt. Had to soak then 'ease' with a pin punch the rollers and cage in two of the bearings as they were frozen solid. Bit by bit they freed up enough to tap them under the hole in the outer race, so that I...

How about a sticky for Noob questions?

May not be of any help - but I have better luck with the forum search by using only one, carefully chosen word in the search box. ... and when ever I post a new thread having found or solved a problem/tip, I try to use a title, as suggested, that makes sence for later. Oh - and "welcome" noob!

Wrecker rear winch fairlead roller rebuild

I think mine is beyond a bow - not that it is bowed, but the sandwich/lamination effect of the top retainer plate #2 and the roller frame #5 is heavily corroded, so no way is it water tight. I will probably put a small gasket in there - maybe nothing more than a cereal box square and a little...

Wrecker rear winch fairlead roller rebuild

Sleeve would go between #'s 13 & 15 (TM drawing is incorrect - bearings on my truck are not tapered.) Bronze washer needed is # 17 or 11 Will also cap top plate to stop ponding of water at top grease fitting if that is easier than drilling drain hole. My sketch is from previous thread on...

Wrecker rear winch fairlead roller rebuild

Got quite the surprise when I pulled the siezed rollers for bearing service... and to paint inside of roller housing following RAEME sus-tow mod. Even though the rollers are very heavy, come to find out that they are hollow and that the space between the top and bottom roller bearings (and...

M543 crane control data plate info needed

Sounds like they are pretty scarce, so when you find out, maybe there will be a small demand for replacements. Will check my 816 later to see if I need one too. Thanks.

    Usefulness of "regular exercise"?

... and there are the winch cables... Not necessarily in the same theatre as the running gear, but they too need a looking at, running out (all the way) and back in probably twice a year unless used occasionally and also dependant on storage location - exposed to rain that will wash off...

    TM for convoy lights

Just read the news article - interesting to read the comments that were below... Conflicting points of view on both sides of the debate. Yes, if you cannot keep up to the minimum speed limit, then you shouldn't use that road. Should you always be aware of traffic infront/behind you - yes...

    TM for convoy lights

RTK SH and CRM - I totally concur and thank you for the practical addaptation of legal jargon - which is based on civi vehicles - shiny and often brightly coloured. Yes, a camo truck, set against green trees, shadows etc., moving even only 10 - 15 slower than "traffic" is a hazard. Remember...

    TM for convoy lights

I know I have to accept common useage of the "American" English, but I'm getting a little confused with the terminology here... Strobe :- Very high intensity (like arc welding flash), non-rotating, flashing light (often upwards of 5 per sec). Usually white and seen within head lamps of Police...

    Towing a 5 ton behind a 5 ton

Longer when towing with any overhang of the rear body beyond the pintle, or towing a W/W truck - otherwise short as possible so that vehicle interferance isn't an issue on your tightest expected turn. Tight turns not recommended. The inside tube on a turn will try to buckle if there is a lot of...

    I imploded my winch.

I'd hazard a guess as 5 years or 800 posts or more - whichever comes first!!! ...... Keep typing, keep learning.... Oh yeah, it helps if you own a whole motor pool too! Heck - I've had/been around MV's for 35 years but only last year got an M816... I'm ok with being a neub again. .... Then...

    I imploded my winch.

TKM - I have to concur with Sandcobras comment, post #18. It takes a brave and humble fellow to fess up to a big screw up on a semi public forum, full of all of the 'older' - been there, done that types, mods, grammar police, TM junkies etc., etc. You did this for the greater good, your...
