Micro brake part of the mix ? wreckers have a micro brake to hold the brake on as you sat in the cab and held the brake pedal down. These can fail to release also, Operated by a push button on the dash.
Another guy who used to deal min 10 tons and their parts is Bill Finnigan in Altona, NY 518-563-6656. I believe he has an ad in the back of the Military Vehicles Magazine.
The winch in post 37 is definitely a 10 ton unit. The spare tire davit shows on the right side of the pic but the spare...
Reference post #9: I took the picture and I believe the hitch was on a M929 dump truck which utilizes the same chassis as a tractor. Unknown who owns the truck or designed the hitch. I believe the point about triangulation or lack thereof is valid for this truck. Also do not know what kind of...
Attached pi is of someone else's solution to the receiver hitch problem. Only issue is you have to take it off the use the pintle hook. and do not know who owns the truck or fabbed the bracket.
Check all fluid levels (engine, trans, transfer, axles) before leaving. Jack at least front wheels off the ground and inspect for slack in steering and suspension. Trailering is the safest way to go and thoroughly inspect the vehicle at home. Read the reading: very important. Operators' manual...
The winch shown in post 25 was one of about 20 cut off winches Memphis Equipment sold of when they closed their yard in Chambersburg, PA a few years ago. Call them and seeif they have any left in their Memphis facility
The truck in post 5 appears to be overloaded: look at how the suspension on the truck squats and I doubt a trailer with 4 wheels under it is not overloaded.
The dimensional data plate in the cab will identify the CG and give the empty axle weights. The tandem puts 7200# or so to the ground, the front about 5200#.
Calculate to total weight of the truck, trailer and load and see if it exceeds to total capacity of all the axles. Obviously the trailer...
Reference post 13: A wrecker has about triple the grease points as a cargo truck. Neglect them at your own peril. Some of them under the crane are devilish hard to get to also. Grease is cheap, parts cost money. Be guided accordingly.
Post 32: About half the pics in this post illustrate lifts...
Along with heat, as here in sunny AZ, vibration is an enemy of long battery life. If using smaller than 6TL batteries, a hold down system that keeps them from bouncing up and down is a necessity. Just jamming some 2X4s in along side them will not protect the batteries. Or protect the connecting...
Reference post 2: the lights on a M35 work whether or not the battery switch is off, not like a M809 where the battery switch deactivates the whole electric system except the cold weather starting aid. Push the center lever on the light switch past off the black out marker by mistake and see if...
Also it would be prudent to determine what fluid is in the transmission: OE10 and Dextron are authorized, as I recall from the applicable LO, but only one or the other. No mixing.
Reference post 5: registered as what ? Farm use, recreational vehicle, historical vehicle ? A commercial...
Get or download the pubs: operators' manual, organizational maintenance manual and parts book, lubrication order. Grease is cheap, parts cost money. Depending on what kind of registration you get a CDL driver may be required. Government sales include no lifetime warranty It takes the military...
Found m ore M 123 pics showing a single winch truck configured for engineer use: single winch and a shoe on the rear of the chassis over the pintle hook which was put there to facilitate deploying the M870 40 ton trailer. M916's used a roller to guide the cable.
Reference post 23: Hagerstown was and is an assembly point for transmissions, differentials and such. It replaced Mack's facility in Plainfield, NJ. Complete trucks are built in McCungie, PA after Mack moved out of Allentown, PA.
Reference post 22: Attached pics of winch assembly and spare...
Don't make a move without the pubs: operator's manual, organizational maintenance manual, lubrication order. These can be found in print at swap meets or on line. Grease is cheap. Parts cost money. Do you know how to operate a military light switch ? Get the beast started after it runs out of...
Reference post 8832: like post 8835 says: scrap. Does this thing run ? Is it titled ? Do you plan do anything more ambitious with it than being a yard truck ? It does not have a military fifth wheel, spare tire carrier is missing spare tire and parts, rear of cab is caved in, quantity of leaves...
