Installing a lift kit will change the brake cable enough to cause it to grab like that (don't ask how I know). Brake shoes in drum brakes are designed to grab better going forward than reverse. You can tighen up the shoes using the star wheel adjuster, so they will only spin in reverse...

6'5"-330# here. Same problem as others. A little belly rub, but the canting of the leg, or having to half-stand to get my foot up on the clutch is the hardest part for me. Is there a way to adjust them down a bit, or is it time for some D.I.Y. modding?

I vote for an infrared motion activated trail cam, like they use for deer and elk monitoring. Mount it on the adjacent light pole, and they probably wont even pay attention to it. Just a thought.
