Making the drive from Los Angeles to Anchorage, Any suggestions on stuff to bring?

Ordak, have you removed the oil cooling lines from the engine ports and replaced with plugs? I'm just wondering which ports you're referencing???

    D60/14BFF Axle Swap on M1009

I just finished ( almost ) a 1 ton swap into the M1009. I'm a thinking you may have kept the drums. Not sure what I did will directly benefit your situation. I headed for disc brakes and found the OEM E-brake cable to be a bit long, sout about 8 inches off the OEM cable and will be swaging on a...

    D60/14BFF Axle Swap on M1009

I'm Just finishing up an axle swap from a donor 1008 into the 1009 - no lift on the 1009. Used the disc brake conversion with Caddy calipers with new ( new to me) original 16 inch steel m1008 wheels cleaned and powder coated. I wanted a really clean surface to mount the inside sticky weights...

    Need radiator advice. Replace/upgrade

Put a Genesis aluminum , Part # ALL191106X2098AA, into the 1009 last summer to replace the rebuilt oem copper unit. Being in the hot desert, the aluminum brought my H20 temp down about 25-30 % . IMO way worth it. Kept the copper unit as backup.

    H1 Wheels 1 ton axles M1009

First choice for tire size would be 305/75/16 or 16.5 which should yield about a 34 inch tire. Second choice would be 295/75/16 or 16.5, which should yield about a 33.5 inch tire. If both of these tires yield too high a final vehicle height to fit in the garage I will head towards 295's. I...

    Project m1010

You may want to consider a Fluidampr instead of the standard Harmonic balancer. After I installed the fluidampr I seriously thought I had broke something. Everything was so incredibly smooth. There is a world of difference in the felt vibration between the two devices. Just my 2 cents...

    H1 Wheels 1 ton axles M1009

I need some new wheels and tires for transplanting 1 ton axles into the M1009. I've read every post multiple times on SS and other sites about H1 wheels on 1 ton axles under an M1009. Even printed them all out. Mucho paper. Lots of posts around this topic but none found on the install...

    D60/14BFF Axle Swap on M1009

The d60 is a bolt in, I'd just get some new u bolts and studs. As far as brakes go I ended up buying a 1 ton master cylinder. The front and rear reservoirs are flipped but I was able to massage the stock lines a touch to swap them. Was wondering if anyone has a part number for the 1 ton master...

    Fuel leak / starting issue

31 gallon from LMC. Get all the components, including their "anti-squeak" kit. Gonna need these rubber sheets. Replace the sending unit as well. Only thing with the new sending unit, ya don't get the extra fuel access port (used for direct exterior access to diesel to run auxiliary equipment...

    Fuel leak / starting issue

I was stuck with foamy fuel and decided to replace all the rubber from sending tank to IP which meant dropping the tank. As long as the tank was getting dropped it was time to install a maintenance port along with a new 31 gallon tank and sending unit. Clearances for the new tank were tight, (...

Broken Axle - Outback ( way outback )

Recovery complete. Found a 2 hour shortcut via a new road cut by a drilling crew. Vehicle was intact, no vandalism. Honda generator charged front 12V battery to 75% while I inserted 3/8 fuel line into fuel tank, followed by Airtex E8153 pump, powered by toggle switch up front tied into the...

Broken Axle - Outback ( way outback )

Recovery, excellent idea. Were you born with all these good ideas or did you have to work for them? Let me guess. :-) I've been going through some of your posts. You're a bloody genius and from the reading, a gentlemen as well. Pepperoni pizza for you tonight, with extra cheese. JPG's idea...

Broken Axle - Outback ( way outback )

Partial recovery. Made the 7 hour (much longer than expected) trip to the M1009 this weekend. Took what were considered to be the "essentials" for whatever one could expect to find under the circumstances. This is what we took and used: generator and battery charger Kano Aerokroil Assortmant...

Broken Axle - Outback ( way outback )

Rustystud, very good idea about moving to a more hospitable spot. Unit has a front loaded 13k winch with plenty of chain, cable, snatch blocks etc. Luck was with me in that the unit happens to be on the only relatively level ground found for about 200 meters either direction. From where I...

Broken Axle - Outback ( way outback )

Seems to me there are a lot of unknown risks in trying to do an axle only field replacement so I headed to jacks military surplus in Tucson, looking for a complete differential unit. Even finding an axle on short notice proved to be a bridge too far. Scored a 308 "working" differential from...

Broken Axle - Outback ( way outback )

Royalflush55...so I was thinking the passenger side of the M1009 may be too close to the mountain side to allow insertion of a long enough shaft to reach through the passenger side of the housing - though the pumpkin- with enough length remaining to do the job of removing the broken axle. I may...

Broken Axle - Outback ( way outback )

You guys all have great ideas. The Chinook would be my first choice. :) The 1 inch rebar is a good field fix, if it works. Not a sure thing, but worth a try. Note to self is noted for 1" rebar. Along with sledge. Its 3 hours to the trail head, 3 hours to the unit and then fix time. Then...
