    20kw Generator

The issue is the modern military units at 15kw and above are 3 phase only. No conversion possible. You have to go back to a MEP004 to get a 15kw unit that can be converted to single phase.

    20kw Generator

Not really a good fit for a retired military generator. One option would be to buy 2 of the MEP1040 10kw generators. They can be run in parallel. A pair of those at auction would run $12-$15K

    20kw Generator

Unless its a 3 phase load, there isn't an option in that power range for a retired military unit in the current gen or one gen back. If you go back a couple of generations you can pick up a MEP004 (15kw) or MEP005 (30kw) that CAN be converted to single phase. The conversion isn't as simple as...

    MEP831A moisture in the controller

Excellent. Glad you are back up and going.

    MEP831A moisture in the controller

Happens to me all the time! :)

    MEP831A moisture in the controller

There is a pin on the servo on the side of the engine. Use that to hold the speed control at max.

    MEP831A moisture in the controller

That’s right. Need to make sure all the coating on the boards is good and seal up any of the unsealed pots. running the engine for 15 or so min tend to get mine back online if I forget to keep it covered.

    MEP831A moisture in the controller

Sure, common problem. What I typically do is start the unit and let the heat from the engine dry it out. Its the inverter that is the problem. By controller are you referring to the inverter? There is a speed controller behind the instrument panel. That is not the source of this particular...

What is wrong me me.. Another MEP803...

Everyone does. Its the single most handy thing I've ever bought.

What is wrong me me.. Another MEP803...

When I got a powerplant setup the excavator wasn't able to lift it. I had to use it to just manage the unit and roll it off the side of the trailer. More than a little sketchy.

What is wrong me me.. Another MEP803...

Yea, they loaded it with a grossly oversized wheel loader. When I'm ready to get it off the trailer I'll rig it to lift with the excavator and set it off on the ground. The two heaters will get forked off with the tractor. I'd use the tractor for the generator but it can't quite lift the...

What is wrong me me.. Another MEP803...

Yep. Picked up another one. For some reason the ones on trailers sometimes go for better prices than ones not on trailers. Go figure. Ignore those other boxes. Nothing to see there. :D Anyway, I talked to the load out guy for a while today and asked about inventory. The lot is empty of military...

ECO Hubs Who needs 3:07 gears?

I have an A0 and from driving it around some with the new hubs I can say that the truck is not slower. I didn't take any measurements with the old hubs but I'll get out and capture some performance with the data acquisition system soon.

ECO Hubs Who needs 3:07 gears?

Yea, I took photos of the swtiches when I started. Verified that number on the chart and looked at the calculations in the manual and figured what it should have been. I did 712 and that was WAY off. Well, that didn't work. Ended up choosing a couple of values to see the scale of each change...

ECO Hubs Who needs 3:07 gears?

That was the dip switch setting.

ECO Hubs Who needs 3:07 gears?

Well, the math didn't work out like I expected. I settled on choosing a calibration and driving to see if I was over or under. I settled down on 440 as the number. At this point its splitting hairs with the GPS. Seems to be either a half a MPH under to half a MPH over depending on speed.

ECO Hubs Who needs 3:07 gears?

My calculations didn't work out perfectly. I'm going to get to the bottom of this and update the post accordingly. Mine was 356.

803a sustained load in high heat.

Your max load is actually around 105%. The green line is 100% under most conditions. One of the idiosyncrasies of these sets. You should be fine. They are tested to run in desert conditions.

    MEP-803a starting Capability

For one the LPW4 engine on the 803 is ~1,800cc. The engine on the 003 is ~2,300cc. That itself isn't a predictor of power output but I can say the higher rotating mass of the larger engine will certainly help it handle surges better. I haven't done formal measurements but from looking at the...

    MEP-803a starting Capability

MEP003 > MEP803. I own both. The MEP803 is a great unit and a beast in its own right but a good running MEP003 will run rings around a MEP803. ESPECIALLY in handling surge loads.
