So bringing our new (to us) M1083 home the other day, the purge valve on the dryer (old style) stuck open. Made it home ... with just enough air in the tanks. The next day when I took off the "snorkel" (which obviously needs to be replaced) I discovered what appears to be an adjustment bolt in...
Just got off the phone with Progressive Commercial insuring my M1083. Agent was ex-military ... excited to talk trucks. Took 18 minutes to get a policy. Could not have been easier. Thanks for posting that tip!
Mainsail ... another WA owner here. I had the same feeling about these trucks until I started diving into fixing various things on the truck. There are certainly large engine and transmission issues that are way beyond my skill level .... but armed with the Tech Manuals and the space to do...
During these crazy times ... trying not to take important things for granted!
Paid my $15 to support this site.
PS: Please tell me Michael Bloomberg doesn't own this place!
I hope that the old timers around here will forgive the rudamentary level of this post. But I do believe there are a lot of LMTV owners that are on a steep learning curve and might find the following useful.
When driving my 1995 M1078 on a gravel road, I noticed when I braked hard, I only left...
Thank you so much. The air lines are hooked up correctly. I will open it up tomorrow and take a look. Do you happen to know if there is a rebuild kit for these chambers? I looked in the TM's and around the web ... but couldn't find anything.
Again ... thank you for the primer!
So it turns out the plunger was not the problem. When I put it all back together and took it out for a test drive ... it was still not working. So now I am wondering if there is a problem with the air chamber. I know that air is getting to the chamber. But when I took the chamber off and...
I always learn a lot from these discussions ... thanks. I didn't initially understand how the plunger works. I thought the whole unit is compressed. Now I understand it is just the rollers that press out against the 14 degree sloped sleeves. It is amazing how such a small movement can...
Follow up ... finding the part number in the TM's I found the Meritor Catalog and this picture ..
Clearly the roller brackets are not asymetrical. They must have gotten torqued.
I still wonder though how these push out far enough (when air compresses this unit) to move the adjustable...
Working on fixing a non-functioning front left brake on my 1995 M1078. I have confirmed I have air to the chamber and it is functioning properly. From there I pulled apart the plunger assembly. It was interesting because it was packed with grease that looked new. Anyway ... when I pulled...
Not sure if this is helpful ... but here is what I fabricated in my truck ...
If I did it again I would have wired in more control switches for things like exterior LED lights etc.. ahead of time.
While replacing the air springs for the cab, I thought it would be a good idea to remove the Air/Hydraulic power unit and clean it up. I did that ... removed all the old fluid and cleaned it up. I did not rebuild it. When I put everything back together and lowered the cab I noticed puffs...
Great idea CoachGeo ....
Moscow Idaho / Pullman WA (75 miles south of Spokane)
I can put multiple MV or Expo rigs for a few days.
NO hook ups ... generator noise not a problem
In a pasture surrounded by wheat fields
No cost
PM me if you are passing through ....
