FMTV's are just plain cool. They draw a lot of attention. They are fun drive and make Jeeps look like toys
What will this vehicle be used for ? If it is just a hobby truck to fiddle with, then jump in. If it is going to used as an Overlanding RV, then tread much...
After investigating the thread damage, I realized what happened. The stock bolts appear to be 85 mm. The bolt spec for the addition of the OEM A/C pulley is 90mm. Short bolt pulled the threads.
In hindsight, JB Weld blue locker is probably fine, but I did switch back to loctite. The more...
Interesting. That's what I thought it was, based on what I saw online. Torqued to 47 and they ALL gave out. Possibly over-torqued before by someone I bet. Helicoil saved the day.
For bolts that hold the pulleys and damper on, only use a very light torque. Maybe 20ish ft lbs. I'm actually still looking for the exact figure. I had to Helicoil them. Also avoid JB Weld blue thread locker. It never seems to cure. Otherwise, JB Weld I found is generally awesome stuff.
Today I used a radiator cleaner to clean it. As I cleaned it it become apparent that what I thought was aluminum, was copper/brass. Why this design?
It lasts A LOT longer than aluminum.
I hope it rather obvious, just how complex this is. He has rebuilt a lot of these, so it looks easy. The problem is, if you do one thing wrong, it will not shift right, and the whole thing has to come back out.
I think the paint job is presentable. There are some tricks you can find on the internet for improving rattle can pain jobs, but you probably already know this : )
Curious, with all the "unrest" out there, did this encourage you to paint the vehicle another color?
