Don't Use Low Range Reverse with 939's? Here's Why !!

    1,680 mile HEMTT recovery

HEMTT gauges do funny things when you are running them with dead batteries, especially if the alternator is iffy or if you slave stared it with no batteries or ones that won't take a charge. if these trucks were jumped and didn't have good batteries that would explain the pegged gauges. Once...

Don't Use Low Range Reverse with 939's? Here's Why !!

Yep. In Afghanistan the trucks we had working doing mine clearance at Bagram had to work in low range, and the drivers would "forget" to shift the transfer case when backing up and we replaced several cases every month. I put forget in quotes because it was more a case of they didn't want to...

Help Me Solve a History Mystery

Most likely after it left military service it served with a small fire department someplace. Small FD's get "loaner" military surplus vehicles through the USFS and will always paint them red or yellow. Since FD's like their shiny red trucks looking nice it wouldn't be unusual for them to paint...

That is the equipment that allows the D5 to be sectionalized and broken down for airdrop. The tracks are removed, there is a metal "wheel" that bolts around the drive sprocket, and that wheel goes under the front so the dozer can be driven with no tracks. Here is picture from the TM to give...
