The IP mounted regulator is adjustable and it really should make a difference you can feel when you move it around. Have you changed the vacuum part on the transmission? One of my trucks wouldn’t shift at all with the IP valve hooked up and was in 3rd by 10 mph if I bypassed it. Turns out the...
OK Carnac. The last time you were at the Rally 4 years ago I bought several of your Snap-On impact socket sets. Since I am a Snap-On snob, I always need more. Specifically metric combination wrenches are my current need. Maybe a 3/8 and or 1/4 torque wrench too. I don’t need cases, boxes or...
I put a 1993 6BT with the stock fan and fan clutch attached into a M715. I moved the radiator which looked just like yours forward about 1/2 inch. I notched the front valence to do this.
There was a guy on the M715 zone from your part of the country that did several 6BT conversions to...
Yep, white smoke usually means a bad head gasket. Blue is oil past the valve seals and black is too much fuel. Kind of unique to indirect injection diesels is oily white smoke which mean bad glow plugs.
It reads like you are turning it off when you let go of the starter position on the key. If that is the case then ignition switch alignment might be the cure. Just to be sure there are a couple of work around you can do to test.
The pink wire on the top of the injection pump is the power lead...
The NP200 heat issue gets argued and debated on the M715 zone just about annually. The best I can figure. About 20%-30% can run all day with the engine at redline and have no problems. The rest can’t handle more than 2500 rpm drive shaft speed for more than about 45 minutes before they get...
I read your post several times and am still confused. You have a 6BT with an automatic in your truck already? If so, then getting a 4 wheel drive automatic and a married NP205 might be your best option. Just a single crossmember for the transmission and transfer case that way.
Everything else...
I remember that old thread. I didn’t post to it then, but I used it when I had the same bouncing problem.
I ended up pulling my speedometer, lightly cleaned, oiled it and used a pneumatic drill to check function on the bench before I installed it again. All these years later it still works...
Rotella 15-w40 is what you will find at Walmart and just about any parts store. If no turbo I would suggest the T4 non synthetic. If you have a turbo or plan to let it sit for months between uses then the T6 synthetic might be better for your engine.
You can use any brand. I just know Rotella...
The DB2 4911 was the factory GM 6.5 turbo IP for about 6 weeks. Then they went to the drive by wire DB4.
If you have a 6.5 mechanical IP which has slightly bigger internals than the 6.2 IP. Then you can have a rebuild shop set it to 4911 specs.
However, I think that is overkill. I have a...
Good idea on the vacuum.
Trying to snake something in through the intake valve might also be an option. The intake has to come off anyway to do the head removal. Might be worth a try.
I bought one of these Wi-Fi borescope a year or so ago:

There is a magnet adapter...
The resistor for low speed is a big ceramic thing. It looks like the ballast resistors used on point ignition systems. When running on low fan speed that resistor gets very hot. I used a zip tie to keep it out of the way and the zip tie sure did smoke a bunch about 15 minutes into my first drive...
That leaf spring plate movement makes me wonder if your U bolts are tight. With the engine running have someone turn the wheel lock to lock while you watch the axle at the leaf spring. The drivers side because of the steering linkage geometry will walk front to back as the wheel is turned. Doing...
Check your rag joint as well. Something caused your steering wheel to now be off center. Rag joint or axle U bolt is my first 2 thoughts. Front end parts normally don’t suddenly go bad. If that is what really happened something broke or bent in that turn. Check the frame around the steering...
I think we need some common terms.
The ignition switch has off, on and start.
The glow plug light should come on when you turn the key to on.
Then you have to hold the key in the start position.
If your starter is not working with the key in the start position. Then you get to check wiring...
Normal tires figure 3-5 years and replace. Military tires, especially the old NDT tires have nylon cords that hold up very well seem to last forever. But, they do age out before wearing out in most cases. It really depends on your intended mission for the trailer.
Military vehicle speeds and...
That lid orientation gets debated on the Zone every so often. The best guess is the manual pictures were taken before production or very early in production.
I have seen people make canvas padded covers for the lid that are actually very comfortable arm rest.
I sent you an email Rory.
