Swivel vs fixed winch hooks
Swiss - peacemkr is on the money. Swivel hooks should only be used on woven or cables that do not have a memory and multi fall crane hooks. A regular twisted winch cable will 'unwind' some when loaded, so in a long pull, the cable will unwind as it's being wound...
Do you know how many PAGES of results you get when you search for BTT or Bump!!! None I saw on the first page had it in the thread title.
Have had this problem before - a search will show results for all individual words of a query, but won't look for the actual combination that would be way...
BTT......
Bump.......
Does either of these mean "ditto" or "I second that"...? had assumed but not positive.
Kind of a 'derr' statement I 'spose.
Have been meaning to ask ever since I joined the fray.
( And I am surprised that they're not lumped into the banned 'text speak' which...
QD idea - OTT?
Is this over the top?
NB it's going on a wrecker which already has a load of heavy extras (BII) so it wouldn't be out of place...
Includes lifting ring, same as whiffle tree, also stiffening.
Recap ID'ing?
Stoopid question - but is it easy to tell these apart from 'virgin' rubber?
I just picked up two "new" NDCC's (bar grip) in 1100x20 from VintageIronMatt(sp?) and didn't even think to check or ask.... AND I GOT THEM TO GO UP FRONT.... :| wouldn't be too bad - but at 36600 lbs...
Yea, that was part of my reasoning too. However the winch cable tensioner and the narrowing of the bumper for the winch would dictate that I offset the pintle towards the passenger side a little, but that has an advantage of giving more visibility down the right side of a trailer.
Unclemikey - did you just bolt the hitch on the bumper or add some stiffening behind?
.... Additional storage lockers, IR lights, tool holders, removable civi tag - great mods. Arctic camo - never enough of that!
I realise that US vehicles traditionally don't have these, since pushing a vehicle infonts bumperettes would not be possible... However most other NATO countries do have front tow pintles, for use with rigid bars and also 'nosing' of trailers or back loading of landing craft etc...
AND, I...
Whiffle tree etc.
There are other posts showing this setup. I think it was refered to as Holmes gear and was typical civi gear prior to the 'rotator' trucks and underlifts.

added costs
If you are just getting a wrecker for GL collections, you won't have to worry too much about the correct BII. Collecting this can be expencive if you want the 'right' equipment for 'display/show' purposes and its a throw of the die as to what a GL win will bring you - see other...
I was wondering why those shackles were in a locker when I got my truck. Perhaps that's where they should stay 'till they're needed for towing.
... yup, seen their adverts on TV, but none near us sadly.
My 816 came with that front fender flashing lamps wire snipped inside the engine bay. I guess it was a lazy fix when the rotating beacon mod was installed.
I just took the lamp off since it's redundant now and somewhat confusing to other motorists: "Must be a NASCAR Army truck - turn Left...
The pins I need may be called (coil-over) "Daiper" pins.
Apparently a version is available from performance retailers - though extremely pricey but also hardware stores - though neither have the pin part as long as the military ones. They'll do for now. Have to wait and see if the pin...
Bins, padlocks and gear...
No guarantees..... My 816 came with a load of BII, however all the lockers were unlocked, yet there were 8 cut padlocks all over the floor and in the lockers, even still fastened to the rear climbup handle!
Hair pin clip replacement.
Slight hijack... some of my hairpin clips are missing or broken - can anyone point me in a direction for replacememnts - thanks.
Mark - congrats on the BII kit you have. Seems like 'Us the tax payers' have funded quite the goodie bag - shame about the boring wrapping paper!
I am curious that the hand tools (spade, sledge and bolt cutter) seem to be "off the shelf" from the local hardware store!
I'd assume they are...
Forever toy, but it's not "Legos"
Yup, I loved it in the 60's and 70's and now my son plays with LEGO, and what's great, is that the bricks that I had in the 60's fits perfectly with the bricks etc., that you can buy now!
However... Does anyone remember the thread about pet peeves?...
Here is...
