I think a good time was had by all. We had a safe trip home, and JP got to show off his mechanics skills on the side of the road (just south of Rock Hill, SC). No pictures of the roadside incident. Looking forward to seeing everyone next year!
Standard deuce uprights are about 47 inches long. Most of the newer ones are fiberglass so be careful cutting them down. Cover should go down just slightly below the bottom of the square rail on the sides. Measure how much yours are too long and cut them down - or find another set of covers...
Most of the time, stencils on canvas are ink, not paint. I have used the white 'cool seal' elastometric paint on a deuce cab cover with success. If it already has holes in it simply lay a piece of cloth over the hole and paint, let it dry and put another coat of paint on, then repeat once...
When we did the group buy several years ago I think the price was under $350 each, but the 'group' bought somewhere between 20 and 30. $512 would be about right for the markup on an item that has to be paid for in advance and sits on the shelf several years before being sold, even more...
Contact Cabell about the rally and then show up! I know most of the regulars who are planning on being there. They come from New Jersey down to the Carolinas and as far west as Memphis! Some only are able to spend a day, but all are welcome! Hope to see you there!
The TM title is "Type 40, Model D60-PA, two-stage air compressor, Ingersoll-Rand Co." added around March 1945 to the
List and Index of Department of the Army Publications per Google Books. As such you will probably need to find it among WWII collectors as it will not have been digitized...
The problem with the old GI ones is that the rubber has shrunk and they will not 'hold' onto the can when pouring. And the 'oriental' replacements have the 'washer' compression disc too thin to hold the rubber compressed, so they come off easily also. Use what you have for actually moving...
CK was the replacement for the MKT series, so not as many have been surplussed (yet). One of them can feed up to 600 troops with a crew of about 6, vs about 10 with two MKT's fully staffed.
The CK TM is on the USB drive that I've distributed to so many of the guys that have bought kitchens (MKT's and TFK-250's). It is TM 10-7360-226-13P if you want to search Liberated Manuals or radionerds for it.
If not stopping stupid, it would at least slow stupid down to be survivable. And smaller pieces can be glued onto the edges of hard plates (overlap from front to back at least 3-4 inches) to stop spalling from flying up into your chin, or to the sides into your arms, etc.
And someone here was selling 4 x 8 foot sheets of Kevlar level 3 this past week. If I remember correctly each sheet weighed less than 350 pounds. Cut correctly you should be able to get three sheets to cover the critical parts. Just my 2cents.
ITAR - International Traffic in Arms Regulations is a United States regulatory regime to restrict and control the export of defense and military related technologies to safeguard U.S. national security and further U.S. foreign policy objectives. The problem arises that many of the people in...
