My new M1009 CUCV!
eVERYTHING 4X4 FOREVER AND SARDOT SAID, plus an oil filter. I see you're in So Cal, as am I. The Barstow and Nevada bases are draining fluids by punching holes in the tranny pan, fuel tank, and removing the diff covers-(and not replacing the bolts), and they drain the t-case. so bring those...- Mohawk Dave

1984 CUCV M1009 build thread
ssgtcampbell77, I am not running the HMMWV wheels as of now. Due to the fact I do not have the D60/14B 8 lugs from the M1028 yet. I am running off the shelf Pro COmp wheels that are 6 lug for my 10B axles. They have 4.5" backspacing. I have read that b/c the HMMWV wheels are only 2" in...- Mohawk Dave

Hey TCUCV, I know you saw my M1009. No lift with 37s, just trimmed fenders. Go with a lift if you want of course, but it is not needed. No lift will keep your center of gravity down, but Obviously a 4" isn't stupid huge, so do what you want, it is your truck after all. I personally think...- Mohawk Dave

How strong are 10 bolts really?
Hi All, I ask b/c, as you know, I just picked up a M1009 with the 10 bolts, 6.2 diesel, and t400. I will be swapping the d60/14B w/4.56s gov-lock & L/S from a M1028 when I save a little green. But until then, I have the M1009 on 37 HMMWV tires, and it will see the southern california desert...- Mohawk Dave

I would go with BFG A/T. We have used every tire under the sun from full race to mom's car, and we now like to run BFG A/Ts on everything that does not see race abuse. THEY WORK!!! and they work on all terrain, snow, dirt, sand, pavement, mud's pretty dang good, and they are tougher than most...- Mohawk Dave

Is it worth it? Air cleaner and exhaust mod.
Quiksilver is correct. Less restriction=more flow. More air/fuel=more power. It won't be a massive gain, but with a K&N it will last dang near forever with proper cleaning and oiling. It can't hurt to have it. As far as the exhaust goes, same principle, 2.5 exhaust will be fine. I would only...- Mohawk Dave

pacebm- no lift planned, possibly a set of deavers and some Fox 2.5s. And yes! the hills are killers. I just drove it out to Primm and the hills by Stateline caused top speed of 40 mph.
