Inspect the Posative battery cable from the battery to the starter. It goes through a hole the frame. Look for any possible rubbing through the insulation.
You can use an ohm meter to test your wires(to find if they are bad(internally corroded).
Does it have the air governor system on the injection pump?
If so, is it engaged at all times? It should not be, and that would keep you limited to 1500 rpm.(that's its job).
I am not sure that particular truck has this system, but I think it does.
Why not just use it as is? You can still feed to a subpanel with a breaker there.
Have you ever looked at all the wiring attached to the configuration switch? It is extensive.
I can't think of any good reason to actually eliminate the parts you suggest you want to remove.
