    MEP-831 A overload problems

I suggest loading it up progressively with resistive loads to see exactly where it trips. That will be important information. With the 831 load is measured by the inverter. There is no external trip unit like there is on the non-inverter generators. If its tripping out on overload its because...

    MEP-802 starting issue

Couple of things, First - What do you mean by starting speed? Are you saying you close the "throttle" and idle the unit when you shut down? Second - Initial gut feeling based on your description would be an injector issue. One way to test the theory is to swap injector locations and see if...

    MEP-831 A overload problems

I would say a likely issue if the true problem is with the AC is the capacitor on the compressor. Those age over time and will cause the start event to take longer and use more energy. If the AC is over 5 years old its not a bad idea to replace it anyway. It can help make the compressor last...

    MEP-831 A overload problems

Can you shoot a short video of the gauge panel of the generator when the problem occurs?

How important are MIL-SPEC gauges to you?

I for one will source a product that works reliably regardless of it being mil-spec. Thankfully I'm rarely in a situation that puts me at risk of being shot at so I don't mind saving some $$ for accessible components.

    MEP-803A vs. MEP 1040

Before pulling the trigger on an unknown unit at an auction I would suggest looking at the cost of new civilian machines. If you are considering buying a MEP1040 you might be surprised that you can buy a NEW civilian unit of the same wattage for similar or even less $$$. It won't have some of...

    Big, Scary Truck

I thought Portlandia was a pretty funny show till I spent 2 years in Portland working on a project. I then understood it was a documentary. o_O

    Stupid Question about Highway Gears??

I'm certainly not buying at those prices. No worries there. I won't denounce capitalism BUT I will have harsh words for faux capitalism. Small markets, closed markets, and monopolistic markets can LOOK like capitalism but not truly be capitalistic due to them not being fair and open with...

    A0 vs A1 Air/Hydraulic Pump

Yea, I saw that too. I'll be looking at alternatives but for the first one I coughed up the $150 to get it.

    A0 vs A1 Air/Hydraulic Pump

That looks like the same kit I bought to rebuld one. I will be giving it a go this weekend.

    Stupid Question about Highway Gears??

That is why I posted the info for the fuel lines in another post. I'm all about making a few bucks. What I have problem with is gouging or otherwise taking advantage of a situation. JIC and AN fittings are compatible with each other and since AN is a commodity item its not expensive. Paying...

    Stupid Question about Highway Gears??

    Couldn't agree more.

    Stupid Question about Highway Gears??

Why are ring and pinion sets for these axles thousands of dollars each? Are there any tricks to getting a set of highway gears without breaking the bank?

    Replacement Fuel Line

The connectors were $6 each and 25’ of hose was $81. The coil of hose is enough to make 3 fuel lines. so about $35 for the one. All the parts were from Summit Racing. edit - technically you should be able to make 4-5 from the hose since the original is 58” long but replacing the line exactly is...

    Replacement Fuel Line

A reasonably priced alternative to JIC fuel hoses is to make up your own with -6 hose and fittings. Ordered some braided fuel hose and some AN6 fittings. Everything went together easily and it works perfectly.

MEP-002a Starter trys to engage but wont turn over

Might be stuck brushes In the starter or a bad starter solenoid. Does the starter spin if you connedpct it directly to battery power?

    CAT 3116 Engine Speed Sensor

I think I see the difference. I see that the transmission has its own engine speed sensor in the bell housing on the right side.

    CAT 3116 Engine Speed Sensor

Thanks for the info. Am I reading this wrong? It looks like the engine speed sensor AND the vehicle speed sensor go to the transmission controller?? It was my understanding that the transmission needed engine speed, vehicle speed, and throttle position to work correctly.

    CAT 3116 Engine Speed Sensor

First post here in this section. I searched around a bit to find the info on the engine speed sensor since the M1081 I recently purchased had a tach that didn't work. I didn't find a post with a concise breakdown of the problem so I decided to make one. I was thinking that the sensor was the...

    MEP 804B 805B Unbalanced Load

Sure, it should be no problem to run the wiring in the attic assuming its rated properly and run correctly per code. People make more out of unbalanced loads than is necessary sometimes. Like most things there are not hard and fast rules here that make the decisions for us. The best thing to...
