To bad your so far away. I got four of the legs from Glen, (91W350) when he was scrapping all the 820s he had. I thought maybe I could use them somehow but **** they are heavy.
If your the type of person that has the skills and tools I say why not? Looks good and a job well done.
If your the type that puts a dollar amount on your own time and labor then yes a 101 or 416 is probably cheaper.
Its common courtesy to start your own thread and not hijack someone elses. (its in the rules also.)
There is no real manual tcase in a deuce. One is an air shift (that shifts the front output) and the spraug case. The sprag has an over running setup the senses when the rear out put is spinning...
I've only seen the folding ones on the 5tons in the GL yards and on trucks on Ft Riley, never on the deuces. I just figured they were standard on some 5tons and civy owners were swapping them over to the deuces.
A dead short would mean lots of sparks and smoke. New (load tested to be good) batteries are not neccesarily smaller, he may have new 6tl's or new hawkers in there.
yes and no. It has been reported that they will fit if you drop them in from the top but will not slide in from the back. If you look on the corners of the shelter you will see they have corner gussets that stick out wider than the actual shelter body.
I have both a 250 and a 101, if anyone...
OK lets get a little more info. Does it "clank" while rolling in reverse or just at the moment you shift it into reverse. If you hold the brake and shift into reverse and it clanks when you do that but not when its rolling its most likely the u-joint. (dont bother greasing them just replace them...
I doubt the police would get involved. Speddmon never had possesion of said items. GL did. They would have to file the report. Anyone ever hear of GLgoing thru that hassle over some small parts that they already got paid for? The police would probably call it a civil matter between a business...
Kind of but not exactly what the OP is asking for. It sounds like the OP wants to use the RBU like a trailer. PCtrans just grafted the RBU onto a 5ton

The "comic book" saftey manual is probably a PS magazine, PS Magazine, the Preventive Maintenance Monthly, and the rest of the TM's are already online and available here on SteelSoldiers
Bigjer, Welcome to SS. I hope you know we will expect pictures and a write up of your truck and trip (in the new member forum or the deuce forum) when you wake up.
I grew up in Rapid by the way.
I'm with FFH on this. It possible just not pratical. By the time you fab everything and get it all together you would have spent way more money than if you just bought the whole truck. (HEMMT, PLS, whichever system you want to have behind your deuce)
Its fun to daydream though.
